Gingerbread on the Droid X, whats new

Did the camera app always have panorama picture mode? It is so awesome I use it all the time!

I also like the spell check highlighting but perhaps that is more useful on the D2.

I have to say I am like most when it comes to the GB update. I love it ...BUT I have noticed glitches with exisiting apps. Some huge and some are minor. Has any one else noticed that Handcent doesnt display the LED notification when you recieve text. Also, quick settings wont allow me to turn my 3G data off????

Well I don't use Handcent but I do use Words with Friends and that has stopped alerting me since Gingerbread (no LED or sound using Light Flow).

And I have Switch Pro (widget) and the Airplane mode isn't working any more. I had mine set up to leave wifi alone and just turn data off, and it simply won't. I thought the app needed to be updated for Gingerbread but now you have me wondering if in fact these are bugs and the apps are fine.

I have noticed when using Bedside, after closing it my icons and everything multiply as I'm moving through screens. Hard to explain...if I could find a screen capture program that actually works with a non rooted phone I'd post it.

While there do seem to be some issues I still love it enough to deal with it. My phone is definitely faster now.

I'll add my two cents... went right from stock Froyo, didn't data wipe or any of that good stuff (I may be nerdy, but I value my time, and setting up my phone all over again is never fun-time for me). Love the new build, screaming fast. Nice visual touches as others have noted, but of course many of you will turn up your nose and point out you've had 46 other GB leaks before now. For those of us who are experiencing it new, however, I like the look.

Only issue? The much-reported sync icon. Been fussing with sync options to try to make it go away, but no avail - sounds like the only real solution at this point is a wipe. Given my aforementioned aversion to said wipes, I'm more than happy to let that sucker sit up there for the time being.

Otherwise, the build runs great and I haven't seen any issues. Battery life seems on par with Froyo, but I haven't done any crazy testing to prove that - just anecdotal evidence.

Almost makes me feel like the ol' BB Storm days... every new OS that came out made it better and better. Except, that phone was a huge pile of crap that I simply dealt with, whereas this phone started awesome and just keeps getting more so. I'd say if Moto can fix that sync icon issue for upgrades, they should pull the trigger on this one. In fact, I'm now wondering if that particular issue isn't the reason why this build was pulled from OTA in the first place...

I absolutely love this build. Everything is fast, and seems to function well, with a few exceptions.

1. I originally had the sync problem, but a wipe fixed that.
2. Some apps are not available in the market.
3. Bottom keys remain lit up when on the dock. There is a fix if you're rooted, which I am not. However, I found that if I place the phone on the dock, and then start to type a text, the lights turn off. Press the home key to return to dock mode, and the lights stay off. I don't know why it works, but it works for me.

I'm sure there will be fixes soon, or else I'll decide to try rooting. These are minor inconvenieces, and are definately not deal breakers.

Love the build so far. The only issues I had with Froyo was the fact when you added Facebook, it added all contacts to your address book so I always had to pick what group to view and the FB contact pictures wouldn't update. Both of these issues have been corrected in Gingerbread, I can permanently select what groups to display in my address book, and pics seem to update great. Love all the improvements, very stable and quick, improved battery life, very minimal bugs so far. My biggest complaint so far is that the Swype keyboard takes a little longer to pop onto screen than before.

I'm having a problem with Swype. I have long passwords, so what I used to do is add several words to the Swype dictionary that look like gibberish, but some of them are parts of my password. Since Swype doesn't auto-space in a password field, this was a real time saver.

Now, though, Swype doesn't seem to allow user generated words to be entered into a password field. I can enter them into a clear text field (tried with catch notes) but trying to put them into pass fields doesn't work :(

As others have said, this seems like a great build. I haven't used the other gb leaks, so this is all new for me. My wallpapers were stuck at some weird ratio before, but that seems to have cleared itself up so.... NBD. I also took the suggestion earlier in the thread to set Battery Left to continuously calibrate. Thank you, person-I-can't-remember. Didn't know I could do that. =)

OH! I almost forgot. What the hell is up with selecting text? I can't get it to do anything useful without resorting to the Swype controls (swipe from Swype key to SYM key, for those who don't know)

Has anyone noticed apps not appearing in the Marketplace? I installed GB and wiped the phone and when I went into the marketplace to download MLB At Bat again, it wasn't showing up on my apps, but my paid copy of NBA Game Time was. I also can't find the Xfinity app that allows me to change channels on my cable box and control the DVR. Anyone else seeing these issues (missing apps in marketplace)?

If you are rooted and are running the GB leak try the .apk I posted in post #4 of this thread. It helped one of my apps return to the market, QuickClock Advanced. Not sure if it will help other apps but it might help you find similar market apk fixes for your apps

Thanks for the tip. I'm not rooted, unfortunately, and really don't want to since I'm afraid of bricking my phone. Is there an "easy" (I know no way is truly easy) way to flash my phone back to Froyo without rooting? I'm guessing there isn't, but I figured I'd ask.

I also had tried to download ShootMe and it gave me the "you are not rooted" message and wouldn't work. Hosehead: You aren't rooted?

If you're wanting to go back to stock 2.2.1 froyo, try what I noted at the following link.

It will take you back to completely stock. It's very easy.

Where did you get Gingerbread for the Droid X? Is there an OTA update available?

Thanks! I have obviously been under a rock. (Actually, spending a lot more time with the Xoom and Honeycomb.)

SERIOUSLY!!! What is the deal with not being able to select text? Is there a trick I'm not aware of? I love the chunky pointer that shows where the cursor is and you can drag on to move it, but I want the start and end selectors and I can never get them to show up. Thanks in advance for any pointers (literally!).
