Gingerbread on the Droid X, whats new

After using a few more days, a couple things to add - sync still there, but I've learned to ignore it. Also noticed what others have pointed out... little delay in loading swype, but otherwise it works pretty well.

I have found something I haven't seen anyone else report - the timer behaves a little weird. Sometimes, the notification up in the bar will freeze. For example, if I've got a 1 hour timer, maybe I look at it around 46 minutes left. Then, 20 minutes later, if I look again, it'll still say 46. When that happens, even after the timer itself expires, the notification will stay up top. Only way to clear is to start and stop a new timer.

Minor bug/inconvenience, but thought I'd note it.

Just found out you can't replace speed dial slot 1. That honestly pisses me off. I use Google Voice on my Google phone. Why the hell should I lose a speed dial for the voicemail service I NEVER USE?

SERIOUSLY!!! What is the deal with not being able to select text? Is there a trick I'm not aware of? I love the chunky pointer that shows where the cursor is and you can drag on to move it, but I want the start and end selectors and I can never get them to show up. Thanks in advance for any pointers (literally!).

The only way that I know of is to hold down until a menu pops up and then pick select word or select all. You can then drag the pointers around where you want. Double-Tap selects the word without the pointers and immediately pops up a Cut/Copy dialog.

I had one thing fixed by Gingerbread, but I'm not sure if anyone else was experiencing the problem. It only affected me when my employer sent text messages from our Help Desk system. The notification would show Unknown and 6245 and some key information (ie Ticket number and persons name). If you clicked on the notification you would go to an empty text message with 6245 as the FROM. If you went into text messages there would be a text message with the correct FROM address, but the message would be missing the text that displayed in the notification area. The missing text was important information. If I got multiple text messages they would then stop displaying that info in the notification area. Once I tried to view it I could never get the missing text.

I tried many different SMS programs and they all had the same problem. They did show that the 6245 was an empty MMS message and the clipped message was a regular SMS message. I checked with other users at work that had Android (no one else had a DroidX) and they did not have this problem. It seemed to be a DroidX problem with messages sent by using 6245 followed by a "phonenumber@vtext.com subject message body" type of SMS.

With Gingerbread it works perfectly, so I'm happy.

I had been having some problems with swype spelling words incorrectly too often. I noticed in the new GB leak that the swype sensitivity slider under the swype settings in the settings>language & keyboard> swype settings defaults at too far to the accuracy side. Moving it a bit to the left toward speed has greatly improved the swype accuracy.

The start and end of a selection are determined by where you slide those clunky pointers. Then long press the highlighted part and make your choice.

But a lot of the time, I don't get the clunky pointers. I get one double-clunky pointer that doesn't do a damn thing.

Really? I get the start and end selectors to show up all the time. I don't know how it happens and I don't know how to make them go away easily. The only way I know how to select text is with Swype.

Are you still seeing the sync symbol. I did a My Backup Pro and backed up my apps and settings and reset my phone to factory settings twice and then reloaded my apps. Sync has since not been a stationary symbol in my status tray. You probably only need to do 1 factory reset but I did an extra one just to be sure :)

So I loaded the .588 leak a day after it was released. I just noticed yesterday that when I plug the phone in to charge it does a total reboot. Anyone else seeing this?

how do you send a text to multiple people?
I don't use the stock text app, but Handcent lets you put multiple recipients right in the To: field

Anyone noticing that the gps does not lock on all the time? Then when looking at maps our navigation it gives a general radius and not an exact location even with gps stand alone enabled. In chicago and manhattan it was always a block or 2 off. the symbol is also different so I have no idea if it's using assisted or the actual gps. Makes me want to go back to froyo since I use this the most.

I haven't experienced any problems with the gps since I upgraded. Seems to actually lock in on my location with 8 meters, much faster than before. Check settings>location & security>make sure standalone gps is selected. Beyond that I don't have any other suggestions, so hopefully someone elso can provide some additional assistance.

I had the same problem. See this thread:

http://forum.androidcentral.com/mot...-gb-reboot-when-plugged-into-usb-charger.html

If you have Bump installed, uninstall it. This solved my problem. The last update to Bump caused a lot of problems.

Some people have had the problem with Angry Birds. You can also try moving any apps on your SD card back to your phone.

Can anyone else confirm that the Caller ID pictures are complete crap now? I noticed this when I added my Quick Contacts widget and saw that the pictures were now low quality. Somewhat pixelated and far from good looking like in Froyo.
Made a call to one of the contacts and saw that it was the same way.

I installed the 2.3 update manually last night and everything was going great except for the sync icon. I decided about an hour ago to do the master reset, and now I cannot get past the phone activation. I have ran the automated activation a few times, rebooted several, waited, and it still won't recognize that it's been activated. After the activation is finished, and I select the "next" option, it just brings me back to the original set up screen with the finger pointing to the android, and that will take me back to the activation screen. Is anyone else having this issue? Does anyone have an idea as to how to get around this? Thanks!

Update: had to call in and manually input my account info. I don't think I can blame to update though, because I am pretty sure I had to do the same thing when I did a master reset with the stock 2.1. I think it's something about my area that doesn't actually send the all the information to the phone when you try to activate OTA

For future reference, you have to tap the corners of the screen going CLOCKWISE to bypass activation.
