Gingerbread Update Pros and Cons

my favorite and probably the most obvious addition besides the Unknown Sources thing is the Quick Settings in the drop down menu

I got rid of it myself

You are deleting the notification of download here, not the 106mb update file. Most of that space went into overwriting existing froyo and sense files, the rest just added the new features.

Yes that is the correct software number for this ATT bundled (Android 2.3.3/HTC Sense 2.1) ota update.

thanks. downloading now..nervous and anxious to see what is going to be different for me. praying for a longer battery life like others.

I don't know about you guys, but that GPS Icon won't go away, even if I restart my phone and do a battery pull.

It just stays there blinking.

Re: Gingerbread Cons - Internet Calling

Here is a Con (to me).

When I have WiFi and connected, I can't make "regular" calls. I get "No Internet calling account" And my options are "Add" or "Cancel". If I press "Cancel", I go back to the dialer. What gives? I just want to make a regular minute based call (I have TONS of minutes). Is there a way to turn this off? I check Gingerbreak docs and google and still have no idea how to turn this feature off.

I just want to make calls while I have WiFi on.

And yes, I can make calls if I am on 3G or 4G. But it is a hassle to keep turning off WiFi when I want to make a call.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Mine seems worlds worse. Not sure why though. I'll have to take closer look.

Luke

I'd agree with you Luke. Although I wouldn't say worlds worse. I'd just say not at all better and slightly worse. I haven't noticed any improvements in performance: speed or battery life. But I have noticed a few things that don't work as well as they used to. If there was a way to switch back to Froyo easily I would.

I don't have any issues with the update. My phone seems to be a little speedier; or so I think. I have only had my phone for a little over a month so I don't notice any huge differences between froyo and GB. I guess "worlds worse" is a stretch but it definitely drains a lot faster.

i lost my updated market place after the update, it went back to the older version. anyway to get that back?

I loved my HTC Inspire 4G until I updated my software yesterday. It screwed my phone up so bad that I had to call to get a warranty phone, b/c it would only let me send text msgs to certain people others it would flash plz wait and then act like I never sent it and it shows I'm connected to the internet non-stop and actually when I checked my data usage in one day doubled my data usage! I am hoping that when I get the replacement phone that it has the old software on there, and I WILL NOT UPDATE IT AT ALL!!! :'( :(

I got the update early and have a couple gripes. I take my phone off the charger between 0830&0900. By 1600 I am at 20%, way worse than before. And I am on WiFi all day at work. I hate that they change the night time desk top app as I use that every night. The app drawer drives me nuts.

But I still like the phone and am looking forward to what HTC brings out soon as I am eligible for an upgrade.

Go into settings/call and make sure you don't have it set to use Internet calling.
