Gingerbread Update: Reliable Information Only Please

Well, it looks like that pdf file picture flying around befor June 30th and whit a ton of errors was a legit one then (if what Mortiel says is true) :)

It was a draft PDF that got scrapped before it was leaked.

Not to say that the plan to update was scrapped before that PDF was leaked, but that actual draft "improvements slick" (as we call them) was more than likely dug out of the Recycle Bin on someone's computer.

Darn, looks like I missed all the fun!

Thanks, Robrecht

Rob, what you are looking for is not going to be found yet. ...
Maybe not yet, but soon enough for this thread to be interesting for a little while, at least for some of us. Do you know anything (that you're able to share) about recent or current test versions at Verizon?

Thanks, Robrecht

Anyone know what's up with the app tabbed layout view ?
IIRC, that's a new way of organizing the app drawer in more recent versions of HTC Sense. When you open the app drawer, you can view all the apps (as you can currently), or you can just view favorite apps (less cluttered), or just downloaded apps. Those are the 3 tabs. And instead of being able to scroll down quickly in one fell swoop from the beginning to the end (inertial scrolling), it is paginated, meaning that it moves a page of apps at a time. This can be seen on some of the newer versions of Sense that have come out since the ThunderBolt. I think we will be getting Sense 2.1 with our Gingerbread update, but some elements of Sense 3.0 may make it onto our Gingerbread update as well. As we get some leaks from Verizon testers, etc, we hope to get some more reliable specific info on this.

No disrespect perceived, but I'm also not looking for instant answers just trying to set up a place for people to discuss and share what can be considered reliable information. I think it might be helpful for people to focus at least some attention on whether or not something they've heard is realiable and why. That's all.

I think androidcentral already set up a place for people to discuss and share what can be considered reliable information. ;)

In all due respect my posts was not trolling nor disrespectful. My post gave the thread starter more respect then he has given to the other posters. I was not the one telling every other poster that his post is a waist of time.

I did not see any of your posts, but feel free me to PM me if you do not like my desire to focus this thread on what can be considered reliable information from people who have direct knowledge of the subject. I do not believe that desire is any way disrespectful of any one else. Personally, I do consider it a waste (not waist) of time to repeat unsubstantiated rumors by people, eg, sales reps and telephone tech support, who are not really in a position to know much, if anything, about this subject. I don't think it would be more respectful to pretend otherwise.

Thanks for the spelling lesson Sheldon.

Just root and install CM7...it's all the gingerbread you need! I did it a few days ago, and couldn't be happier with it. I laughed when last night's "update" came out.

From what a VZW rep told me here in Cleveland is that HTC pulled the GB update to put Sense 3.0 into the update and it should be out in the 3Q of this year.

Sense 3.0 takes up a lot more space than I think the thunderbolt has.

Probably not too reliable, but I noticed in the HTC ChaCha review it was running sense 2.1 (which the Thunderbolt has been said to be receiving with GB) and I noticed that it had the new lock screen. Anyone think this could be a good sign for the TB to at least get the new lock screen from 3.0?

What's the big deal about the new lock screen?

I got a chance to use my co-workers EVO 3D and the lock screen is a nice addition, the whole device is nice in my opinion.

And as for the TB hot having the space for Sense 3.0 users have been running it on custom Roms without any reported issues.

It's more just looks for me. Being able to access messages, etc. from the lock screen is nice. If it doesn't come with the lock screen its not a big deal, would just be an added bonus.

Doesn't instant access to messages and such from the lock screen kind of defeat the purpose of the lock screen? I'm confused about why this new lock screen is so great as well.

That's a good point... I plan to just and the new weather on the lock screen to keep it simple.

Besides if you don't set a password anyone can browse your device without restrictions any way. Set the password and they will need it before it will open any of the quick access items..

Security is only as good as the user.
