Gingerbread Update: Reliable Information Only Please

That's a good point... I plan to just and the new weather on the lock screen to keep it simple.

Besides if you don't set a password anyone can browse your device without restrictions any way. Set the password and they will need it before it will open any of the quick access items..

Security is only as good as the user.
I'm not as much concerned as security as I am having my pocket open an app and drain my battery without me knowing it. Or worse, sending random emails to my address book! ;)

Now that is funny because something like that I totally overlooked. Surely something to think about but think password may help there also.

I absolutely agree that a password would help in that aspect. That level of security is just not as important to me as my phone only ever leaves my pocket to use it and then it goes straight back in. It just adds an extra step that makes it "slightly" more inconvenient to use. To me a lock screen is not for security (password is for security). The lock screen is to prevent accidental screen clicks. Thus this new screen sort of defeats that purpose and brings me back to not really understanding why it's being perceived as that much better. Maybe I'm missing something else here.

Also, I understand and accept that this is my personal opinion and respect that other's don't feel the same way.

In order to accidentally call someone or send someone an email while the phone is in your pocket you would have to bump the power button then somehow slide the unlock ring to the icon representing one of these, then hit all of the buttons to send an email or to place a call. It is pretty much impossible.

Obviously everyone is obligated to their own opinion and I respect their opinion, just pointing out some things.

Ok, so that makes it a little clearer. It still require "unlocking" but instead of a generic unlock to the home screen you unlock to the selected app? I get it now. Thanks for the clarification!

Glad I could help!.. Now we should probably get back on topic before we get yelled at haha.

The new sense lock screen is great. I had it on the last Rom I was running, and i loved it. Smart up grade. Unfortunately the rest of the Rom was too buggy for me and I had to switch back.

Maybe not yet, but soon enough for this thread to be interesting for a little while, at least for some of us. Do you know anything (that you're able to share) about recent or current test versions at Verizon?

Thanks, Robrecht

Nothing at the moment. More focus has been on the Incredible 2 at the moment.

I'm new to Android and have a TB. What is the OTA update everyone is talking about. My TB has Android 2.2.1 on it. How do I tell if I have this new update?

What is this OTA update to which everyone is referring? I am a relatively new TB owner (Verizon) and also somewhat new to android. My Android software version indicates 2.2.1. How do I tell if I have the discussed update?

For GB you would have 2.3.1. This is not officially available yet.

You can request the updates yourself by: Menu ? Settings? Scroll to bottom? Software Update? Check for updates.

To check: Menu ? Settings ? About ? Software, should be Software 1.70.xxx.x if you have the MR2 update. 1.12.xxx.x (none) or 1.13.xxx.x (MR1) if you don't have MR2.

Anyone know what's up with the app tabbed layout view ?

Rob, what you are looking for is not going to be found yet. What I can confirm is this:

It was initially planned to include Gingerbread in the MR2 that was released yesterday, which was originally set to be released on June 30th. That is actually the truth, but it never happened.

The date got pushed back to July 7th, and when it looked like the update was going to be pushed back again, Verizon decided to push the fixes that were already done since there was rather a large public outcry to fix the phone. As I said previously in other topics, the fix has been finished for a while now.

Currently, Gingerbread is expected later this month, which would put it under the Q3 rumor. Q3 started at the beginning of July, to anyone curious, and runs until the end of September. That is an easy guess for any HTC or Verizon rep to make, since even if it gets delayed a ton more times that rumor can still be correct. Its like saying the world will end sometime in the next trillion years. lol

Just root and install CM7...it's all the gingerbread you need! I did it a few days ago, and couldn't be happier with it. I laughed when last night's "update" came out.
I completely agree that it's great that we have these options, but they don't necessarily make this topic any less interesting to many people. Not everyone wants to void their warranty by flashing another ROM or really has the time to research all the different options and fixes for various issues. And even those who do have the desire and time to flash various ROMs may still be very interested in the newer ROMs as they are developed and leaked, whether they are AOSP or OEM/carrier leaks.

Yes and no, and not necessarily. The Moto and HTC Sense implementations are somewhat different, and I'm not sure that every GB ROM update has had this tabbed app drawer functionality. For example, I don't recall seeing it on the GB update for the EVO 4G. But I could be wrong about that; can anyone confirm?
