Looks Like someone found a way to get WIFI Tethering to go on the Droid X!

Doesn't work for me. Just directs me to the VZW page telling me to sign up. I'm on deodexed/rooted .596.

Works for me, but for some reason I lose 3G after using the App - even if I don't actually tether the phone to anything. A quick re-boot and it's all good.

According to the post the patch is unstable at best but it seem to work for some, seems to need more work but it appears to be make progress. I gave up on the free patches and decided to just pay for it because I couldnt take not knowing when it was going to work of not because Verizon made changes to block the access.

I was going to pay for the real vzw wireless tether the other day. I called vzw and was dumbfounded to find out that they want $50 per month for the service! OUCH! that's abusive....and it's not even unlimited data.

After uninstalling it, un-patching, re-patching and reinstalling it I got it to work. After I use it though, as jcarlosfox said, the 3G goes all screwy. Sometimes it will work and other times I need to reboot.

Liberty 0.6 not running. I started it. Then it turns on, then the actual app says its on. Then I connected on my MBP, then when I went to refresh this page as a test, i got a url like
dun.vsw.something/insert-forum-title-here
Then I re-oped safari and it cant even load the page telling me to pay

Verizon has pushed a fix for this onto phones. I am running leaked gingerbread rooted on a DROID X, and it was working fine until about an hour ago.

Yup, no tether on GB. Maybe a fix comes, but it seems verizon took serious steps post froyo.

GingerBread of the CM7 flavor runs WT just fine. I recomend this ROM, it is fast and beautiful!

Wow, on rooted phones even, I remember P3 asking folks to delete the update.apk for a reason.....

The team black hat patch works like a charm, I've used in on liberty ginger bread. 8, .7 and. 6 as well as stock (albeit rooted) .596. As for stability, a reboot fixes all after you finish, and I find that acceptable.

Don't know what plan you looked at but the plan for using the Mobile Hotspot is 20.00 got 2 Gigs... The 50.00 is for older devices that tethers with a cable not for devices with Mobile Hotspot compatibility,

Indeed it does, but I don't have to reboot on cm7 and I don't need to nvram hack. ... Ah, the beauty of 100% system AOSP.
