[INFO]I'm leaving.

But only for a few days! In an hour from the time of this writing, I'll be on my way up to the amazing Rocky Mountains. Unfortunately I will not have any access to the forums and won't be around to answer questions during this time. No parties, kids. And the house better be clean when I get back. LMFAO!!![/INFO]

I am trying to use Gingersnap on Mac OS X 10.6.8 and the root install can't find my device. I have tried rebooting several times with no luck, including removing the battery and rebooting and no luck. Screenshot attached.

I have an LG Optimus S running :
Android 2.2.2
Baseband version LS670MVD_60401001
Kernel Version 2.6.32.9
SW Version LS670ZVD
USB Debugging Enabled
USB Storage Disabled

Thanks.

im a noob.. so i downloaded .net 4 framework, visual c++ 2008, found the driver thing on Drivers & Resources - LG Forum.. but on the page there was an option for the first zip " lgls670" or second "lg usb drivers all 4.9.7".. i did both... i now have the lg symbol in the tool bar.. its shows my phone on there so i assume that is the correct driver.. i rebooted/ factory setting my phone and is on home screen.. i put my phone into debug. i loaded gingersnap.. hit root and wips across and said "this rooting process is complete and your device is now rebooting. you may exit this utility."... but my phone does not look any diffrent. i downloaded an app call root checker and it says its not rooted.. what am i doing wrong. i hate being a noob.

I registered just to report that your Gingersnap worked perfectly to root my stock Virgin Mobile LG Optimus V. It did break a few of my APPS that I installed from Android Market. The phone showed them as "not installed". And the phone ran REALLY sluggish until I rebooted it. But all of that was only minor stuff. After the reboot the phone ran fine speedwise and I maintained root across several boots the for the last week.

So if you guys wanna gain root but keep your stock Virgin Mobile ROM, then this is a great package. I only wanted root to test out some apps before putting the Bumblee or Harmonia ROM on my phone.

I haven't tested the unroot function though.

thx drewwalton for putting this together. I followed your instructions to the letter and everything went smooth as silk. This kind of tool is EXACTLY the reason I purchased an android platform phone. I want my smartphone and I want it the way I want it. Not how they tell me I want it. Kudos to you sir!

Gingersnap will not work from the phone. But gingerbreak.Apk will as I understand it. I believe there is a topic about it somewhere

The gingerbreak APK installs superuser for you, so you don't need to install it prior to rooting.
hi i am a little late i could not have asked this question earlier, i am not very good with the root process i just heard the term, i tried the links for the drivers thanks, i was having no luck before i kept trying and trying for my pc to allow connection with my pc and i could not get it to show up in my computer, now its communicating well with my pc, but when i try to run the root utility its asking me to remove and insert over and over my sd card, the great thing is that the first time i try your root utility i went well i guess i must have did something wrong to corrupt my sd card, and my apps where being removed automatically with out my efforts, i am trying to root again hopefully i can go threw the process and my phone won't ask me to insert over and over my sd card, please if i come across this message again what can you suggest i do thanks,

I think you can just unmount and remove the SD card prior to rooting
