Give me Gingerbread so I can leave this forum

Well, that's a thought.

I out-grew "fixing-up" products, like my car when I was in my teens and 20's.... My computer when I was in my 30's.

These days I like to buy things that actually work without me having to work on them. I buy a smart phone to use. I didn't buy it to have another hobby.

what are you 65 years old?

maybe you should have one of those phones with the 3 big buttons?

Hey my 68 year old grandma upgraded to a phone with a full keyboard lol so others should be fine lol. I think the problem is it looked like this guy was attacking the forums saying he can't wait to leave here because it sucks or something. I completely understand the frustration and having to fix things yourself is not why you bought the phone. The problem is they take their sweet time to release the fixes so sometimes against your will you have to go out of your way. I have never rotted and android I had and I broke down and rooted yesterday and holy crap it is the best thing I have ever done!! I am on Das Bamf 1.6.3 remix and am not looking back until stock gingerbread comes out and ill do that for awhile but for now there are many worthy alternatives that work for us now and follow the guide by Cstreater and it is fool proof!

I have never seen someone make such consistently negative posts before.

Mike, I'm sorry that you're not happy with your phone. I was one of the MANY people who tried to help and answer your questions early on but it was very obvious even then that you're not interested in going beyond the most basic of tweaks and modifications. So why didn't you just take the Bolt back? Why continue to make yourself miserable? I'm genuinely curious. And when you say that you're waiting for all of the things promised to us before launch, well.. it was obvious on the day it launched that those things had been pulled. I understand waiting it out for a while, but come on. If they were that important to you, find a phone that has them NOW.

If you don't have any interest in rooting or roms and you just want to have your phone work right out of the box, it may be best for you to switch to an iphone. Most people here are willing to have an imperfect device in exchange for control and the ability to fix whatever we want to fix.

It is nice to have choices, and the iPhone is a nice choice. Perhaps an iPhone 5 is in my future.

Just for clarification, you are saying the Droid is an imperfect device and the iPhone is perfection? :D

AND Droid users prefer phones that don't work so they can tinker with them to see if they can fix them? ;)

Maybe they should be called DYI phones. ;)

I went Android for the development community and with the intent not to remain stock. As much as I despise Apple, I would've went with an iPhone if I wanted a stock device. Android just has too many little quirks and annoyances that will make you want to chunk it against a wall if you don't like getting your hands dirty.

android it self works fantastic, if you rooted your phone and tried a vanilla android you would see that, HTC skins the device and adds all the little quarks to it. As well this phone has two separate processors and radios in it with a RIL that has been the most complicated yet. My droid incredible was perfect and still is, its not android!!

You must not read many posts if you think mine are the most consistently negative.

No need to feel sorry, I am not completely unhappy with the Thunderbolt, and have said as much many times. Furthermore, I have obviously made basic tweaks and thanked people for their help (you probably didn't read THOSE posts)

As far as taking the phone back - are you kidding? Take it back NOW after having used it from the first day of release? What good would that do?

Thank you for your "genuine" curiosity, but please. forgive me for not believing you. Contrary to your "genuine" concerns for me, I am not making my self miserable over a "phone." There are far better things in life than a cell phone to make oneself miserable.

I have made my choice of cell phone and I will use it until something else better to my liking comes along.....as I have done for over 20 years. Fret not for me Rem, and if you find my postings too much for you to bear, please pass them by.

But put your heart at ease and know this, I am neither miserable nor consistently negative.

Mike getting bent out of shape AGAIN!!!! Nothing new here... after Gingerbread comes out you will be screaming about something it's not doing correctly... then Ice Cream Bar... then...

Yep...if you want a phone that works perfectly out of the box and requires no tweaking at all (because you can't) then an iPhone is perfect.

I prefer the droids myself. I've always hated Apple.

You misunderstood my question (and maybe took some words too literally, heh). I was wondering why you didn't take it back earlier, when you first realized you were unhappy with it. I have seen a lot of the posts so yes, I'm aware that you've done the basic tweaks. They don't seem to have given you the results you were after, though, and you're not interested in rooting or going further with it. That's all I'm pointing out. Maybe I'm thinking too much in terms of "if it were me" - so, my apologies if that's the case.

Trust me, I'm not losing sleep over your issues with the phone. I was only asking whether there was any reason you're so set on keeping it when it doesn't do what you want or expect it to do. Again - it was just curiosity.

I had heard that people could hack/tweak/fix Android phones before I got the Thunderbolt, but I thought the stock phone would still be fine - like a stock muscle car. I thought rooting was just to "soup" it up. I hadn't planned on "getting my hands dirty" for a cell phone......live and learn, I guess. ;)

Taking the phone back was something I had given a lot of thought to. In the end I decided to keep it because there really wasn't anything else on Verizon (my carrier of choice) that was of interest to me. The iPhone 4 was tempting, but didn't have 4G nor could I talk and surf at the same time. I liked the idea of the bigger screen as well, although now having used the TB for a couple months a slightly smaller screen would not be a deal breaker for me.

True, I am not interested in rooting - I am not interested in a cell phone as a hobby, I use a cell phone as a tool. I enjoy using a hammer as a tool for my hobbies, but I don't want my hammer to BE my hobby.

I am glad you are not losing any sleep over my experience and comments about my Thunderbolt.

I also hope that this has satisfied your curiosities about them as well.

Happy rooting to you.

i found the problem why you are having issues with your TB

you keep saying your hand will get dirty if you work on your phone

my phone is clean

maybe the "dirt" is messing up your phone.

i would recommeend a small shop vac, a can of copmpressed air, and some of those electronic cleaning wipes

maybe some gojo from some of your car buddies to clean your hand

glad i could help!

I have never "hated" a company before, what's that like?
