Glad I made the switch

I just for giggles went to my old blackberry site, just to see what was going on. I used to have a Storm 2 and as anyone knows, BB likes to tease their customers with the promise of "new and improved" OSs'. Well after reading one of the posts, my decision to switch to the Android was reinforced. It turns out that the new system that was to make the Storm compete with the Android will now not be available until their new phone comes out. Boy did I make the correct decision. I love my DX and only kick myself that it took me so long to come over.

This has been known for awhile because of memory issues on the "older" devices. (By memory issues I mean not enough memory)

Anywho, I have a BB Storm and a DX and I use the Storm for work and the DX for personal use... love them both. BlackBerry still has a major leg up over Android in the messaging and notifications areas but Android has a lot more "eye candy" and "fun stuff".

Just switched from BB Storm (original) only thing I miss is email push... It seems so much more delayed on my X.

I think a lot of us switched from the Storm (I did have the Iphone for a little bit though) and we can all appreciate it too.

I came from AT&T and the iPhone 4. Let me tell you I wish I would have done this months ago. The service is so much better, hands down. AT&T's 3G might be a little faster but who cares when it won't hold signal and their maps are terrible. I really have come to like Android OS alot better than the iPhone. It's not quite a smooth(although damn close), but everything else is so much better. One of the biggest things is no annoying pop up notifications.

It may be that you don't have it configured right for push email. I have it set up and get messages pretty instantly.

I don't miss my BlackBerry at all. The Droid X just meets my needs better. BlackBerry's operating system just doesn't seem to be moving forward IMO.

There were a lot of things I liked about my Storm, but honestly a lot of the things people say were better are only true when comparing it to the stock out-of-the-box experience. Maildroid or even k9 do excellent push email that rivals the BB experience.

It's a different mentality I admit, and coming from Blackberry it took me a while to adjust, but part of what makes Android so powerful is you are rarely stuck with the stock version.

Obviously everyone's needs aren't identical, but after a month and change I can honestly say that none of the things I said BB did better are still true after exploring various options in the market.

I dont know if I was doing something wrong but when I tested emails on my storm it would take 4-7 mins on average for it to pop up on the blackberry sometimes up to 20 mins and once and a while instantly or pretty quick, a long wait on my droid would be 4-7 mins and most of the time I would get it right away

Maildroid or k9 are not push they are imap.

This is true.

PUSH is what BlackBerries use. It's a mechanism whereby the server pushes something to the client when a new message arrives, without there being an open connection from the client to the server.

IMAP IDLE works by the software on the mobile device issuing commands to the server. An IMAP server provides two things in response to a client command: An answer to the request; and Information on any new messages. This means that when a mobile device is actively doing things with an IMAP server, it will be told immediately about new messages. The device can then get summary information on the message to present to the user, and can automatically download the message.

This is not exactly correct and actually the post in response to this is closer to correct. IMAP supports a type of push. Some IMAP support a IMAP Idle push, which is what the next poster is saying. Both MailDroid and k9 support IMAP Idle Push for those servers that support Idle.

Please read this for the full details: http://www.isode.com/whitepapers/imap-idle.html
