gmail issues

I was having the same problem with my droid not receiving push email. It turned out that I had stopped the google talk program from running in the background. That is the program that gets the push gmail to the phone. As soon as I turned it back on I havent had anymore problems. That was about 2 weeks ago. I hope this helps for any of you guys in the future.

I don't know if I would agree with that statement entirely, because "talk" is NOT an email push app, it's an IM app..... but, it got me to thinking.

I am NOT a fan of app killers (task killers) - perhaps some of our friends here are having email delivery issues because core apps are getting killed by task killers. When they reboot (or pull a battery in some cases) the app restarts and the email gets delivered. They were thinking that there was some sort of sync error - when in fact they caused the device to "un-sync" by using these silly and pointless app / task killers.

I might be wrong here. But, I might suggest someone having email delivery issues either be sure to put EVERYTHING related to gmail / email in ignore lists -- or, better yet, uninstall the pointless (and often harmful) task killer app.

For me I didn't realize I had deactivated syncing from the power management bar, try turning that sucker on if it isn't.

gmail or another one?

Gmail. New discovery, that correlates to what others have noticed... The gmail problem seems to occur after I turn on wifi! I've seen this twice now... The other day when i was at work, I enabled wifi, and then immediately noticed I wasn't receiving e-mails anymore. Just now, the same thing happened... wifi was disabled, I turned it on, and bam, no more Gmail e-mails.

That's a really unfortunate glitch - I want wifi, and I want e-mail, and those things shouldn't be mutually exclusive! I hope this is specific to the Droid and not Android in general so that the Nexus 1 will work better.

When I try to do a manual sync with gmail, I get this message.

"The process.com.google.process.gapps has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again."

I did all of the above suggestions, but it didn't work.

Ideas?

----> Go to settings --> Applications-->filter running apps --> clear cache for gmail.

This should fix it.

Oh ok, sorry about that. I had the exact same exception and clearing the cache fixed it. Beginners luck perhaps.

Fixed the problem and didn't have to do a factory rest (thank God).
I cleared the data and cache for both Gmail AND Gmail Storage. I had cleared the Gmail only. On a whim I deleted the info from the storage and it worked. Now it's possible that I only needed to clear the storage, but I won't know until it does it again.

I have tried all of this - do i need to go and do a reset?

When I go into Manage Applications, it doesn't list Gmail. If I go into 'Mini Info' it does mention Gmail.

I've cleared the cache, installed the Gmail Notifier but still have no luck.

Please help guys! Thank you x

I found this via the search- I'm on Evo 4G but I'm having this same sync issue.

I did kill Gtalk from the OS running services menu- I never use Gtalk and saw no reason to keep it running. My gmail stopped working and I could not get it to sync no matter what I did (even rebooting the phone!)

After reading this thread- I signed back into gtalk and then accessed gmail again- voila! I now have gmail sync. I'm no Tech guru so I can't say this is the way to solve it for everyone- but it worked for me. Thanks for the suggestion! (I also deactivated Wifi and tried to sync- but that alone did not work. Activating Gtalk and yes I was still on 3G only- that DID work- so take that for what you will.)

Android signs into all kinds of things I don't understand why- I 'm just watching the running services menu and QiK Engine Service is running- I don't use that app either! Really hope Froyo fixes this OS hog- as I'm running almost nothing and I only have 60MB of available memory?
