Gmail Sync btwn phone and computer

Ok, so lets start off by saying I have tried all the obvious things, but I can still not get my email to sync status changes from my phone to the computer. For example, I read the email, and change the label depending on the topic (have to keep it clean looking or it drives me nuts), and then like an hour later if I am on the computer, I will log into gmail to use that instead and the emails show as unread, and not labeled or moved to the folder. I then check the device to make sure I really did it, and yes I did.

Any ideas on how to get the two to communicate again, would removing then adding the email help? Also, if I do this, will I have to redownload all my apps and stuff again??
