GMail syncs twice in a day - is it normal?

Hello!
Recently, I noticed that auto sync in my GMail app is performed twice a day (there are no incoming letters at these moments), and the first one is every day at the same time, and the second one is in random order (for example, yesterday at 5: 55 pm, and today at 6:00).
Could you please explain whether both of these synchronizations were initiated by Google, or whether a hacker or virus intercepts my emails or, even worse, sends spam on my behalf?

That's how the sync is setup on the phone either by you or default. No hackers involved. Many tutorials online on how to change sync frequency.

Which device you using?

Open Gmail app then go into setting to control sync

Welcome to Android Central! Is this your Gmail email account, or did you add some other email provider's account (like Yahoo, AOL, etc.)? Gmail gets synced automatically, not at set times of the day. Other kinds of email accounts can have their sync schedules modified by you -- open the Gmail app, tap Menu>Settings, then the email account, then look for the Sync frequency option.

Where are you seeing the times when the app is syncing?

That's me again, I just registered on the forum to be able to explain the situation in more detail.
I'm using Google's default email, not a third party inbox, on a Galaxy S20 FE (Android 12). The sync frequency settings, as I understand it, are not available there.
The fact of the matter is that once a day, mail is synchronized, as you said, automatically, at a random time. I would have come to terms with this if it were not for another sync on the same day, but always at the same time, with an accuracy of almost a second (for me - every day at 09:47 pm). In general, is it normal that there are two synchronizations per day, and not one?
That's why I suspect that one of these syncs is automatic and the other is installed by some kind of malware. I have a new phone, but the problem remained with the old one. Does this really mean that I have been hacked and do this with every new device where I log into my account...

It's not installed by hacking . For one thing if it was a mass mailing infection (notice I didn't say hack) your data usage would go through the roof. Trust me it's not a hack.

Look at it this way. Think of Dracula movies, he can't get in your house unless invited, or he catches you on the street. Same with Android. If you don't say yes to random popups or click install at sketchy websites, for all intents and purposes you are safe. Unless you are on the FBI'S most wanted list or a celebrity of some sort. And even then. They will go after banks or websites long before they go after an individual.

I try not to install ANYTHING on dubious sites and do not give them my data. It’s just that I’m the kind of person who, just by accident getting to a suspicious web page, is already starting to worry that he has brought some kind of virus to his device, although I didn’t have time to do anything there.
I thoroughly checked my phone with all kinds of anti-virus programs, checked the security section in my Google account - everything seems to be in order. But I still continue to suffer and look for something bad...

Your Gmail syncing twice a day is nothing to worry about. Mine syncs at least that. If you are still worried about being hacked contact your local police because hacking is against the law. Unless you are a cartel leader, that's a whole different kettle of fish. Sleep well and don't put personal info on the web if it gives you anxiety.
Look at cute cat videos or Dracula movies instead.

Gmail syncs via automatic push -- which means that any new emails show up within a few seconds to maybe a minute of it arriving into your inbox on the server. It's not syncing at set times -- it's essentially syncing all the time. It's how it works, and is really nothing to be worried about.

That's your problem right there. You're LOOKING for problems that aren't there.

Do you get many emails? No judgement, I'm just trying to confirm a hypothesis...

No, I may not receive emails for several days, if not weeks. I don’t blame sync for this, I just don’t use Gmail as my main mailbox (the main one in another application).

I suspect what you are perceiving as Gmails sync interval is actually just coincidental timing. As others have said,gmail actually "syncs" hundreds if not thousands of times a day. but if you don't get many emails to that account, you won't notice.

It's not a bother, we're happpy to explain what's going on and hopefully we have put your worries to rest.

It is actually very difficult to get "hacked" on android if you are being careful, and it sounds like you are.
