Going Back to iPhone 5

Re: Going Back to Iphone 5

Maybe some of us don't see messing with your phone all the time as very diverse. Doing other activities may actually be a more diverse lifestyle.
This is a tech forum not a lifestyle forum. There are also scientists that spend a lot of time doing things that aren't riding bikes etc. But if they enjoy doing that then it is their choice. That is why I said it depends on a person's desire to learn vs being told how to use something.

I can choose to buy an overpriced cake (iphone) or choose to make my own cake (android). When I buy a cake I can only choose from what is available. When I make a cake the options are limitless.

Well, it is true some of spend a lot of time messing with our phones, especially when we first get them or a new software build comes out - to learn the system and customize the way we want therm.

After that initial time we have them set up like we want them, know what they are capable of, and don't have to spend the messing with them any more than on iOS - unless we just like doing so.

The difference is that we end up with a better phone (display, speed, camera, operating system) set up to work the way we want. Going back to an iPhone you just have to live with what they give you, on an inferior phone.

You can bet that android users going to iPhone would also complain about missing how android works - I know because I have family members with iPhones and they are frustrating for me to use. Again, the difference is, there isn't a thing I can do about it on an iphone.

Re: Going Back to Iphone 5

You miss itunes sync? I use iTunes on my desktop. I have a dedicated folder that syncs to my Google music cloud. I drag the music I want available in the cloud to the folder in iTunes and it magically appears in Google Music. No syncing to the phone needed. I plugged in my daughters iphone 5 the other day to help her copy 1 song to it and the process was so stupid I felt like I had wasted 10 minutes doing something I could accomplish on any Android, blackberry or WP8 device in less than one minute.
I'm guessing he misses iTunes because he's just used to using iTunes all the time, and hasn't really been able to explore easy options to sync the One. I think he should give himself more time to understand the phone (imho) and be willing to change his ways (the ones he got from using an iDevice for a long time) a little, and explore the One for a li'l while. He might actually end up liking it better

Re: Going Back to Iphone 5

Good luck. A lot of people around here don't like to admit it but in the same way iOS isn't for everyone, neither is Android. Gotta use what's best for you.

I also had an iPhone 5, and I sold it yesterday.

I personally feel free now. Loving it.

Thats how I feel in a way too. Although I am not ready to sell the iPhone 5 yet lol. Not because I think I wan't to go back, I would just feel weird doing it.

Re: Going Back to Iphone 5

I switched to Android HTC One from 4 years as an iPhone user, there's no way I'm going back :)

Things that sold me:
1. Widgets: brilliant
2. Trace keyboard, how can I type any other way now?!
3. Being able to turn my bluetooth on and off easily when in the car. It was practically dangerous and illegal trying to get that sucker working on my iphone if someone phoned me part way through driving
4. The contact integration/social media is fantastic.
5. Many others to list

My only gripe was that I was expecting days of battery usage, it's not bad but my expectations were probably too high :)

I agree it's not a lifestyle forum, that's why I don't think it's correct to imply somebody doesn't like to think because they own an iPhone. People have different needs and wants, that's why there is more than one model of phone on the market. The type of phone somebody owns doesn't say anything about whether or not they want to think.

No one said he doesn't like to think.

We said he is probably better off on iOS becuase he doesn't want to put in the minimal effort to learn android that would provide a better experience in the end.

Re: Going Back to Iphone 5

Not working in the car is not petty. You need to be able to charge, play, run apps with voice like maps, make and receive calls on your phone while during. Pretty much every car that works with a smartphone works with iPhones. It easier for the car companies to test with the iPhone instead of all the different Android phones.

Tried the HTC One for 2 weeks and have decided to stick with Iphone 5. Liked the phone, impressed at where HTC and Android are at this point but...

-Couldn't get phone to work well with car which is important to me, petty, I know
-I use an Otterbox and it made it near impossible with one hand
-I find the Iphone Camera to be better quality as I like zooming further than HTC would allow
-Too much clutter, IE Blink Feed and Gallery
-I like the way Mac/Iphone/Itunes sync seamlessly
-Battery was weak compared to what I'm used to in regards to lasting time and charge time

Positives though...

-Google Play was awesome, not taking up storage but having music
-LTE Speed is ridiculous
-Speakers are awesome
-ZOE/Sequence Shot
-Viewing Angles, especially outside were great, even in Otterbox

Anyways, thanks for all help

Better experience for you? Not everyone is you.

I could care less about widgets myself but thats me. You can put widgets on a jailbroken iPhone by the way. In fact there is very little you can't do on Android that you can't do on a jailbroken iPhone.

Re: Going Back to Iphone 5

There are many apps that allow you to drag and drop things to an iOS device.

I'm coming from an iPhone 5 and will be sticking with the HTC One

-Not sure what your car problems are specifically, but mine synced well with the bluetooth setup in my car
-I can see this with all the Androids out there in the 4.7-5+ inch screen size. I always prefer a thinner case myself, as I never like taking away from the aesthetics of such a beautiful phone (iPhone 5 included)
-I'd give an edge to iPhone 5 in camera, but would definitely note that HTC One has way more features and editing techniques. Zoe is actually really cool
-I got Nova Prime Launcher, and took blinkfeed off altogether so no worries there. The clutter in the gallery is a pain with the Facebook integration. I think they dropped the ball there, but I never viewed it as a deal breaker or anything
-Hey if you're used to the Apple eco-system, that's perfectly fine. I prefer the way Android syncs, because I can treat my phone more like an external hard drive. Plug it into my computer, and drag and drop stuff right on to it... effortlessly. I absolutely hate dealing with iTunes and syncing. I love that I can take my HTC One, connect it to a friend's computer, and drag and drop pictures, movies, music, etc... right onto my phone without having iTunes on my *** about everything. Also, I feel like this is a good place to mention dropbox.
-I actually have not noticed a drop off in battery... but I guess we'll see over the next few weeks.

Re: Going Back to Iphone 5

I first have to say that I respect op for trying the device even if he didn't like it he tried which is more than most people will so. I tried the iPhone 5 had it for 13 days and took it back. I loved icloud and the ability to just pull all my music out of the cloud without having to plug the phone into a computer. I liked the build and feel of the phone. But the reason I took the phone back was because ios was just way to limiting in my opinion I loved widgets the ability to turn on bluetooth WiFi etc without diving into the settings. And I also felt for the price apple is charging for the phone 16 gigs was much too little and refused to spend 299 to get a device that wouldnt run out of storage within a few months with all the pictures and apps I download. But to op if you truly like ios more power to you.

I just wanted to let you know you can store your music in the cloud (Google Music) so you can stream it or download it to your device.. Just like iCloud :).

Google Music and Amazon Cloud Player will both let you store music in the cloud and play. You can use both on either iOS or Android.

Bluetooth? Shouldn't be a problem. Mine works without a hitch.

-I find the Iphone Camera to be better quality as I like zooming further than HTC would allow
There is a new software update coming out soon that will vastly improve all aspects of the camera.

-Too much clutter, IE Blink Feed and Gallery
All you have to do is turn off Blink Feed and relegate it to a screen in the back. Or install a launcher, have more homescreens, and never have to see Blink Feed.

-I like the way Mac/Iphone/Itunes sync seamlessly
Everything is syncing in the background to Google's Cloud. If you are talking about syncing with your computer and iTunes you have two options. Use HTC sync which syncs flawlessly with iTunes, but requires you to use a cable. Or download Doubletwist for your computer and phone and sync wirelessly.

-Battery was weak compared to what I'm used to in regards to lasting time and charge time
My HTC One's battery is way better than the battery on any iPhone I've owned. I go three days without charging with moderate use and still go two days with heavy use. Apple has had a long history of battery and antenna/reception problems with the iPhones.

But to each their own. Some folks just like using old outdated technology. The iPhone 5 looks exactly like the first iPhone that I bought in 2007. I love the freedom of Android and all the things I can do with it that I couldn't even do when I jailbroke my last iPhone.

Re: Going Back to Iphone 5

I know about play music I've had my music library stored to it since it launched. It still doesn't negate the fact that icloud backup and restores are much better than Google's equivalent without root

"I can choose to buy an overpriced cake (iphone) or choose to make my own cake (android). When I buy a cake I can only choose from what is available. When I make a cake the options are limitless. "

Lol where does Over Priced come from?
Upgrade Price....
iPhone 5 =$199
S4=$199
HTC One=$199

or Full Retail....
iPhone 5 $649
S4= $639
HTC One=$599

All of those seem really close in price to me.

At full retail, the iphone is most expensive, but if a home button or volume rocker quits working you can walk into an Apple store and walk out with a replacement. Can't do that with HTC.
Not sure if the Samung within bestbuy will do that either.
