Going Back to iPhone 5

Re: Going Back to Iphone 5

Android is so far ahead of iOS now they'll need to nearly rewrite the entire OS for me to consider them. I even prefer WP's features to iOS at this point but the severe lack of developers for that platform is a deal breaker.

Re: Going Back to Iphone 5

that means ALL phones other than Nexus 4 are ALL over priced, Not just the iPhone. ALL other android phones.

And btw the $299 is an 8GB phone - useless (5GB left out of box)
$349 would be the starting price. Either way every single phone is the world, other than nexus is over priced. Reviews on Nexus 4 aren't so great either Engadget says its slower than a S3.
I think very other phone in the world is over priced. Google priced this phone so low that I can't see how low priced bargain phones are still selling at all.

As for it being slower than a S3... This is just not true. This phone screams and can rival any phone on the market including the One or S4. There were a few hiccups when it launched but now it is super fast and efficient. This is due to the clean OS. I used a friends One X+ the other day and was surprised by how much Sense added to the phone. It seemed over complicated and less intuitive than basic Android. I also use Nova launcher which also adds a ton of great features. Including the faster than light transition animation. Instantly responsive.

Look, i don't even wanna talk to you.
You say that iPhones are for people that don't wanna think. I don't talk to people like you.
I think I said that they don't want to think. Just taking credit where it's due :D:thumbup:

Re: Going Back to Iphone 5

Easily solved when you jailbreak the phone. I have all the toggles that I will ever need and I can switch browsers too. A jailbroken iPhone opens up endless customizing possibilities while keeping the essential smoothness of the OS.

Endless? I would disagree. Just visit www.mycolorscreen.com and compare the iOS screens to what people are doing on Android and it's obvious how limited even a jailbroken iPhone is. Not to say that it doesn't add some great options but I had to comment when you said endless because there is an end.

Re: Going Back to Iphone 5

I have a GS3 that has lag and stutter even with Jelly Bean. If I have to root it to remove the crap that Samsung added or to flash a pure JB, then why can't I jailbreak my iPhone to customize it. Both OSs have their problems and both are solvable with tinkering. I mean some are criticizing the OP for not tinkering with his phone to solve the problems. So why the double standard?

Sent from my iPhone 7
Every phone requires tinkering to setup the way you want. This is done by iphone or Android users. The difference is that he had simple solutions to his problems that he chose to ignore. He chose to abandon ship rather than put more fuel into his boat. No one was asking him to root or anything.

Re: Going Back to Iphone 5

Sorry if I didn't provide context. Many times in the iOS vs Android debate, people speak about iOS features, such as the full backup in iCloud or whatever that Android cannot do without a 3rd party app (recently) and/or root access. People would suggest, "just root and load whatever app" and get flamed, because "you shouldn't have to root to get basic features". I wasn't trying to blame anyone for anything, just to even the standard so that we're talking about out of the box functionality or full potential functionality in both cases. I think you and I are coming from the same place on this one, wanting to compare oranges to oranges, so to speak. Sorry if I was unclear!
For what it's worth... Hasn't HTC provided full backup since Sense 4? And Samsung does it via Kies which is much improved recently. So this was a huge deal a year ago but now Android is filling in this hole with new Programs like Carbon backup (now called Heliun).

All I know is Jony Ives better pull a rabbit out of his hat with ios 7 or there will be a mass exodus. With Key lime pie just around the corner Apple is facing some serious pressure as the media has begun to turn on its beloved iPhones. It is asking far too much for them to keep waving the Apple flag when it is clear that Android is now superior in almost every way.

The OP wouldn't even make simple changes to his phone before giving up. I seriously doubt he is going to jailbreak his iPhone either.

You can do a ****-ton more stuff on android without root than you can do on iOS even with jailbreak. My take on it is that flexibility of Android is the heart of Android. To try to compare iOS to Android with it's heart ripped out is a bit of a unfair comparison.

And while jailbreak does allow you to "get of of jail" you are still stuck in iOS town and they can come and round you up in their paddy wagon any time they want. And you are still much more limited than in Android on the software/customization issue and that is on top of more and in many cases better hardware options.

What is the ton that can be done on a Android phone that cannot be done on a Jailbroken phone? I can theme my phone. I can add toggles. I can change the browser and the SMS messenger. I can eliminate the use of bottoms all together on my phone. It is like the new BB 10. All done with swiping. I can change the multitasking. I can add settings to the camera. Pretty much everything I can think of, I can do. I can even change the keyboard to the new BB keyboard. PLEASE tell me what is it that can be done on an Android that cannot be done on a jailbroken iPhone.

What do you mean by this? It is not illegal to jailbreak your phone. It is illegal to unlock it. Unlocking is different than jail breaking. Unlocking is illegal on Android as well. The unlocking law applies to all handsets under contract with any carrier in the US. Please explain what you mean by your statement.

Go on Cydia and look at the ENDLESS list of THEMES available on jailbroken iPhones. You can change every facet of the interface. EVERYTHING can be changed. I am not into theming, but if I was I can change my phone's look everyday, 365 days a week and still not use all the themes available. There is reason it is called jail breaking; it gives you great freedom from Apple's sucky prison.

Re: Going Back to Iphone 5

Isn't a lot of that stuff you do with a jailbroken iPhone (like the theming) kinda buggy? I know a couple of people that jailbroke and then went back because it just plain caused issues for them.

I mean that, and the whole pirated apps thing. I'm not a fan of that.

Re: Going Back to Iphone 5

Jail broken iphones are basically a very watered down attempt at the innovations and functionality of android. Despite what its adherents would have you believe. To the inevitable "oh yeah? Like what?" reply I'll get to my statement from someone, I'm not going to entertain that question any more than I would explain why water is wet.

Re: Going Back to Iphone 5

First of all let me just say I'm sorry to hear your going back to the iPhone5. I came from an iPhone 4s and my wife has an iPhone 5 and let me tell you i can hardly tell a difference from the 2 except that the iphone 5 is a little longer in height. Moving to HTC one = best thing I ever done and love it.

That being said and Android device is not for everyone just like an iPhone is not for everyone. If you truly feel this way then I recommend you do go back to IOS, however like some of the users mentioned make sure you at least give it enough time to see if this phone is not for you. Remember you got 30 days!

For me this was so refreshing, I been an iPhone user since the orginal iphone on at&t's edge network since then I've owned 3gs, 4, 4s with exception of the 5, but my wife has the 5 and i played with it and not wroth the upgrade from the 4s unless your upgrading mostly for the LTE which is a big deal for me. Being an iPhone user for so long i'm tired of the same look as far as the icons/desktop look. I love it how on the HTC one i can customize my desktop to how I want and i'm not limited to Sense 5 i can install other launchers, animated wallpapers, widgets and just make my phone look different each time.

Like I said above this is not for everyone, but for me it feels so refreshing and this is the first non iPhone phone i purchased due to being nice built quality and actually being able to compete with the iPhone on that level. Hope you are able to make up your mind and go the route you enjoy the most.

I'll be setting up a tutorial for this latest theme shortly on www.mycolorscreen.com/badbrad. You can watch it and do whatever is in your power to duplicate the functions.

Basically the large icons are links to a specific app. But the small icon in the corners are links to folders. I have a custom battery bar at the top that changes colors as the battery gets lower and a toggle widget for turning things off and on. All of this was designed on my phone. I didn't use photoshop or anything. It uses Zooper widget and UCCW. The background has a transparency to it, so if I change the wallpaper it is completely changes the look. Rooting is not necessary for this.

I have the 3 buttons linking directly to my camera, voice command and weather app. So they are there instantly. I also see notifications for missed calls, texts and email. Also has a live weather feed and a custom locker slider.

I'd love to see you do something like this on your iPhone. And this is really the tip of the iceberg. There are other themes that make this look simple.

I think the big problem with jb iphone doing these things is that it may be able to do any of them in isolation, but it is more work and start piling on all the changes and it starts to get janky and buggy. Then ios has an update and you either miss it or reset and start over. Maybe things have gotten better but that is what I recall.

OH- cool setup. And I got a chuckle out of the work icon.:)

Nope, you can change EVERYTHING, from the font to lockscreen to multitasking to icon look, to custom sounds to custom animations live wallpapers, widgets etc it's the same thing. Even better about Jailbreaking is that you don't have to wipe your device to jailbreak and get features only some custom ROM's have. Tell me how I can make my Nexus 4 fully gesture based like Zypher on iOS?

Personally I prefer Cydia for installing tweaks.
