Going Back to iPhone 5

Re: Going Back to Iphone 5

So, basically, you are saying it has Siri and a weak edition of Now?

Sorry, not much of a selling point there.

I read your link and watched the video and the missing parts of Google Now on ios are very easily complemented by Siri. That is why it is a good idea to have both. Siri does the other stuff that is missing from ios google now. There is no standalone app that fully integrates with your handset. There will always be stuff missing. For example, google now does not voice navigate from my contacts even though my contacts are on gmail. Siri does that for me. All google now does is navigate me to work and home. Even on my GS3 google now does not voice navigate from my contacts. It is baffling why it does not.

So yes some things are missing, but at least i have both and can use one or the other based on the functionality that i need. You cannot say that with Android. As i said Google bends over backwards to accomodate ios users. They make more money from the app store than they make from the Android OS.

Can always use quickpic for picture album. Works great.

I agree. I used QuickPic instead of the stock gallery app. I liked it a lot.

Anfdroid does NOT provide a better experience for most people. for example my dad has tried my N4 but he preferred his iPhone 5. just because it is the better experience for you doesn't mean it is for everyone.

Please explain, then, how my grandmother (who, mind you, barely even knows how to use a computer) loves her N7 and has even ditched her iPhone for it for everything but phone calls.

Have you considered the Blackberry Z10 or Q10? Or just the iPhone?

Re: Going Back to Iphone 5

I have an otterbox commuter and it doesnt hardly add any bulk. Fits fine in one hand.

Re: Going Back to Iphone 5

I have switched from using an iPhone for the last 6 years to Android! Has it been a challenge? Yes! But it has been a thrilling challenge! I am in love with android now! I wish someone would have truly explained to me how awesome android was years ago.

The learning curve has been steep but I am loving every minute of it.

Honestly I've never felt this kind of connection with my phone before (I know that sounds weird) I actually feel as if my phone is Truly MY phone! I can make it do what I want, instead of basing my actions off what my phone is limited to doing. I can see how this many possibilities can be overwhelming to some people, and the simplicity of the iPhone is comforting. I just look at it as a fun challenge!

All I can really hope for is that you find what you are looking for in your iPhone. I understand the allure :)

I hope you always feel welcome here though!

Paradigm = magic.

Re: Going Back to Iphone 5

This may be true except the widgets you add on iOS are nothing like on Android. I'm talking about things like uccw, Zooper widget, Dash clock, power toggles etc. These combined with different launchers make the experience much different for Android users. Even on a jailbroken iPhone you are so limited.

Oh you can, you can add toggle widgets to JB iPhones.

Different strokes for different people, my iPad is not used nearly as much as my N4 but when I use my iPad I just love it, it's my entertainment device.
On the other hand my dad doesn't like tablets and prefers his MBA(courtesy of my convincing) because he likes having a keyboard and something that has USB ports.

Re: Going Back to Iphone 5

I've got an iPhone 4 and the only thing I don't like about it is I'd like a larger screen. I tried the iPhone 5 six months ago but it had wifi issues, so I returned it. There are a couple things keeping me from pulling the trigger on the One. First, I'm concerned about battery life. I often go 2 days without charging my phone. I never worry about it. I see all these threads on here about tweaking things to maximize battery life. I don't want to spend hours messing with my phone to try and make the battery last longer. Why do you need to turn the gps off if there are no apps using it? I never mess with the gps on my iphone. I don't do push email as it would drive me nuts being constantly notified when I receive an email, so that is a non issue when it comes to battery life.

The other thing I would miss is extremely minor, but I like having a physical switch for the ringer.

Syncing is a non issue for me. Who syncs anymore, I have everything in the cloud. The case is a non issue thing for me as well, I keep my phone naked.

The two things drawing me to the One are the screen and the fact that we use gmail and google apps at work and I use gmail at home.

The days of not charging your phone for two days are long gone. You can kiss THAT goodbye.

-Couldn't get phone to work well with car which is important to me, petty, I know
-I use an Otterbox and it made it near impossible with one hand
-Too much clutter, IE Blink Feed and Gallery

hmm, what car ?
don't blame a phone for your choice of case. case-mate and spec. make better protection shells these days
you can turn off everything you don't need, surprise that you wrote this to be honest

Re: Going Back to Iphone 5

iPhone is better for someone like you who doesn't like a feature on your android phone, but doesn't bother to change it.

If you don't like blink feed, just get a launcher, you never have to see blink feed again.

There are alternate gallery apps available.

Regarding working with car, not enough details to know why, so I will just say my One works flawlessly with my truck.

Battery life has been good for me so I am not sure the issue for you. You do need to turn off gps and blue tooth when not using, but otherwise it should get you through a normal day.

I don't get the whole syncing with iTunes thing and why it is even necessary to sync a phone, but maybe because I have been on android a long time. The OG iphone I had was a pain in the **** with the need to sync. I haven't synced a phone since getting rid of that. What are people syncing???

So, in closing, I guess it comes down to there is a learning curve coming from the iPhone that many people don't want to tackle, and probably a lot of iPhone users are so ingrained to the limits of iPhone that they don't understand that if they don't like something on android, it can almost always be changed. It is a different mindset that seems hard for some iphone users to break out of.

Preach!! lol Very well said.

Actually, I am not surprised. I have seen a lot of these kind of posts. Generally, they come in and announce that they are going back to iOS (like anyone really cares) and then list 4 or 5 reasons, most of the time easily fixable with modest research or even a polite question on the forum, or a willingess to change an approach.

Although it isn't always stated openly, the attitude seems like - "Hey I tried it, but Android sux and iPhone is much better. I can't believe you guys don't get an iPhone". Followed by examples of their ignorance of Android.

Re: Going Back to Iphone 5

I have been looking for a phone to upgrade from my iPhone 5 for sometime. I chose the HTC One.
The truth is that its one or two different generations from the iPhone 5.

the iPhone OS is ancient.

For example having to go home button-next screen-settings-WiFi-off/on just to toggle WiFi is ridiculous, or to not have any browser choices with flash, etc. etc.*

actually that reminds me of another aweful thing about the iphone.
when you are editing online forms, e.g. an ebay advert, the iphone just goes mad.
firstly spelling suggestions go out of the window. it starts making odd suggestions about words you have never heard of.
secondly it does weird additions. so you are typing and it suddenly replaces the last three words with something totally out of context.
Apple have improved this. It used to be impossible to even use on web forms, but it stil needs alot more work.
chrome and webkit (and IE on Windows Phone for that matter) are vastly superior in this aspect.

It could be argued that Flash is ancient.

define ancient

HTML is but it still works pretty well

flash has kept up to date and there are certain things I have to have it for, e.g. reidreviews

apple don't like it as they can't control the advertising stream through it
apple are showing signs of hubris
no bluray players in anything they make ? as they want you to buy HD films from itunes ?
less like a computer, more like a controlled content delivery device

Your two posts in this thread reek of apple hate.
