Going from Evo to Epic...

Yeah, I also considered getting the epic... But I thought about a few things:

a) Samsung may never support this phone properly;
-It might get 2.2.
-It's certainly not getting 3.0

b) because Samsung won't support the phone whole-heartedly, one would have to rely on the developer community... But there developer community is very small.

I'm not saying that HTC will port Gingerbread on the Evo. But I'm fine with that, because I know the guys over at xda will take care of me ;)

Samsung and Sprint have already said this device is getting 2.2. It's ridiculous and completely false to think for even one second the full galaxy line won't get 2.2. Think about it.

Enjoy your EVO all you want but don't spread misinformation to discredit Samsung unless you have a shred of evidence.

Sprint has said a lot of things in the past. Did you see how long the Moment got 2.1??

Actually the Samsung GPU architecture is a lot more popular than snapdragon.

I cannot figure out why someone would get the best buy warranty when it costs more and covers less.

People are confident they won't lose or have their phone stolen. So they add the $100 deductible for damage to the Sprint cost and go with Best Buy.

I don't get it either but that's the rationale.

The only thing that Best Buy doesn't cover is lost or stolen device. It covers everything else. Funny story... I let my little one play with it one day (my EVO), she fell asleep with it and had a accident :( Ruined the phone. Took it straight to best buy and told them it had water damage (pee pee). They took it to geek squad, sent it off, I had a new EVO in 5 days. No deductible to pay like with Sprint insurance. Also, Best Buy has unlimited replacements where Sprint caps you at 3. Best Buy also gives you a loaner phone while your phone is out. I will gladly pay the extra 2 bucks a month. The loss/theft coverage isn't that important...TO ME because it's not often that you lose your phone or it gets stolen. Now dropping it, damaging it yourself or getting it wet is more common. BB FTW IMHO Sprint doesn't cover water damage :(

Sprint does cover water damage but it costs you a deductible.

You got lucky, I had both insurance (Sprint's and BB), and when the charger port on my phone broke, BB wanted 2-6 weeks to work on it, and $150 for a loaner phone.. Sprint wanted $100 (actually Asurion did), to replace mine in 7-10 business days (here it is day 5 and according to FedEx, it's due today). SPrint even credited my account $130 for the issue, so I'm actually out nothing.
Sprint definately wins on this one..

Thanks everyone for the comments so far~ :)

I did talk to Sprint and was told that I was pretty much out of luck.
I don't totally blame them... I had my contract for only 2 months (when I got my Evo), but that definitely doesn't make it hurt any less lol.

One more thing I have thought about in relation to my worry over updates is how Sprint's premium plan you get with the Evo/Epic gives you an upgrade every 1 year instead of 2.

So really by the time updates get too worrisome I may be able to just upgrade my phone.

In that case I would just have to keep hope that Sprint will keep rolling out quality smartphones like they have been here recently.

It's a really hard decision (especially given the drastic lack of Evos and upcoming Epic release date) and I do appreciate your guy's opinions.

Well I love my Evo, but I say go for the Epic try it out for the 30 days if you don't like it send it back and go back to the Evo. It sucks having your phone stolen and have to spend more money on a new one but since you have to might as well make the most of it, and experience both phones!

I'm picking up the Epic at BB on one of my lines eligible for upgrade and trying it out for the 30 days. If I like it I'll keep it, if not I'll stick with my Evo, which by the way is still waiting for a replacement from my sprint store.

Epic ehhhh IDK... They dont support their phones very well I mean look at the behold 2... But even more so then that its touch wiz... I wouldnt be tooo worried about the updates cuz u can upgrade every year but it would suck if they took forever with 2.2 when we all have it and will have had it for a long time by the time the epic gets 2.2...

Sprint has made a lot of false promises in the past. Anyway, the Epic getting Froyo is not guaranteed. The EVO getting it is, because... well, it's already here!

The EPIC 4G going past Android OS 2.2 is highly unlikely. The Samsung model is to release a lot of phones at competitive prices and provide below par support. This is what helps them make profits.

How long did it take for the Hero to get it? You seem to not realize that the carrier is the one that controls which devices get updated. Sprint already said the Hero and Moment will not get 2.2 but all devices that launch with 2.1 will get updates to 2.2.

You might want to install an app like Mobile Defense on your next phone whatever it is. I've never had a phone stolen but I have misplaced one before when I was out of town on vacation and spent hours trying to find it.

If the Epic's specs were in the Evo then that would be the phone to beat. Until then, Evo has software down while Epic has hardware down.

Thanks again for everyone's comments.

I pre-ordered mine at BB today.... we'll see how this works out. ^^
