Going from Evo to Epic...

FWIW, I tried both a Vibrant and a Captivate, which the Epic is part of the same line of Samsung Galaxy S phones. I spent most of my time trying to make the desktop look like HTC Sense on my HD2! Beautiful Widget came close, but the weather part was buggy. Then there is the well documented Galaxy S GPS problems. Then as for on-screen keyboards, there are no arrow keys in TouchWiz like the HTC kb. So you are sol if you need to do any editing. Next, to me there is no better email or sms/mms programs than the ones from HTC Sense. HTC Sense, no matter in WinMo or Android, its the best, period!

As for slide out keyboards? I went from a BB Bold 9000 to an HTC Touch Pro 2. At first it was awesome, it was the largest, and best laid out kb made. But then, unlike my BB Bold, the TP2 needs both hands to use. This can be a pita if trying to type while on the go with one hand. So when I switched to the HD2, it was heaven! Just hated T-Mobile with their poor signal strength in my area. Otherwise I would have kept the HD2.

So I would say stick with the EVO.

You cannot go wrong with the Epic. It has to be the best phone I have ever used and I also had an Evo but got rid of it. Anyone complaining about touchwiz has no idea what they are talking about. Here are my pros so far compared to the Evo.
1. Screen is 24bit 16.7 million colors compared to Evo 16bit 65k colors
2. There is no lag while the 30fps cap on Evo made scrolling and pinch to zoom seem jerky
3. It can play back DIVX HD files and basically everything I throw at it smoothly. Evo could not.
4. Physical keypad, swype and regular onscreen keypad
5. Battery last longer
6. It feels better in the hands while the Evo felt like a brick.
7. All share.
8. Games run super smooth but seem slow on the Evo.

I finally rooted my evo and installed a custom rom without the 30fps cap and honestly I'm gonna stick to the evo now. The epic is great I'm sure but I'm content with the evo now since it seems twice as fast as before and super smooth, plus I'm a big fan of sense UI. Not just the homescreen (which is the best ever imo) but all of htc's enhancements to core apps and overall polish to the os which I don't like to the more stock like ones. I don't have any issues with the evo to be trading it in just to win some sort of d#ck measuring contest when its close enough to let personal preference make the choice.

Good luck to all who decide too get the epic, but im good here

The Instinct left a bad taste in my mouth. That is a big reason why I personally am not switching.
