Going Screen Protector Free

I bought the Zagg invisible shield.Had it on for a week.Hated it.Removed it and been naked and loving it.No scratches since phone came out.
Here is a link from Corning."Is Gorilla Glass in my device"It is in our Captivates

I got a small scratch on the screen my second week... I will have a screen protector on it forever.

I have found the wet-application protectors affect the picture the least, after a day or so. Sometimes it takes several hours for the minuscule droplets of water to evaporate, though.

I am still on my 30 day evaluation, so I am using a screen protector. Cappy might be going home, depending on how the 2.2 and GPS fix goes.

I have one of the "self healing" rubberized wet application protecctors, and I moved it from my first Cappy to the replacement #2. I got a couple of bubbles after the move, where it was perfect before. But, still just fine for a demo unit.

The Captivate is one of the Galaxy S Series phones. There is also a Samsung Galaxy S phone which is sold in europe and marketed as the "Galaxy S". It's bascially the marque phone that all other Galaxy S phones inherit a subset of the features of.

Example the Galaxy S has a front facing camera, gorilla glass, and Divx/Xvid support.

The Captivate, a Galaxy S series phone, does not.

Seems like it would cost more to retool the manufacturing lines to use two different types of glass versus maintaining an economy of scale across all Galaxy S devices and just using one grade of material.

Compared to an iphone 4, my Captivate seems like the same surface.

What evidence do you have that it doesn't? People keep coming in saying stuff like that, but Corning not spelling out the Captivate doesn't prove that it doesn't have Gorilla Glass.

The only evidence I have is that the corning press release refers only to the "Samsung Galaxy S Premium Smartphone" and that Samsung tech support responded to my email questions saying that:

The US Galaxy S issued phones do not have Gorilla Glass, that only seems to be available in the European markets. The Captivate if issued in the US, it just has an Amoled Screen.

But, that's a low end techy, so can't say they actually know what they are talking about.

It's just never marketed for the Captivate, and you would think if it had it that ATT (or the other telcos and the Galaxy S series phones) would be screaming to the world about how they had the Gorilla Glass.

That, and people seem to be getting the kind of scratches that Gorilla Glass is supposed to protect against. But, maybe they are just unlucky.

Either way, I'm sticking to a screen protector, and remaining doubtful until Samsung or ATT say outright that there is Gorilla Glass on the captivate.

Yes, it is. But by the feel of the glass compared to the feel of my wife's iPhone4 glass, it is definitely not gorilla glass...

I didn't realize iPhone4 had Gorilla Glass.

Engineered Glass

All the breakthrough technology in iPhone 4 is situated between two glossy panels of aluminosilicate glass ? the same type of glass used in the windshields of helicopters and high-speed trains. Chemically strengthened to be 20 times stiffer and 30 times harder than plastic, the glass is ultradurable and more scratch resistant than ever. It?s also recyclable.

Here is a website explaining that aluminosilicate glass in an iphone4 is not Gorilla Glass.(but it is similar and possibly made by the same company)

Steve Jobs is all about control and non-disclosure... yes maybe it is unprovable, but look at the Gorrilla Glass list and read the bottom about how some customers of the product wish for their products not to be named.

Why on earth would a device mfr NOT want it's customers to know it has the best quality, scratch-resistant glass available?

I have been naked since I got the phone when it was first released. Nothing so far except tiny little specks that you can see in bright sunlight. I had a screen protector on my old HTC WiMo phone and it makes the screen look like crap. This screen just seems too beautiful to cover up with a film (no matter how thin it is).

The glass on my Captivate feels the same as my wife's backflip. My iPhone 3g definitely felt different, and so does the iPhone 4.

Regardless, I still have a protector on. My wife scratched the front of her first Backflip, and we know that was GG. I just use the clear 3-pack protectors from AT&T, just like I did with my 3g. I'm hard on equipment, and they worked great on the iPhone.

One thing I did note, however, is that they don't seem to like to stick to the Captivate screen. It was never an issue on the iPhone, but it took me all 3 protectors to get one to stay on.

So today, tired of the grime constantly getting stuck on the surface, the ruining of colors, and the general delayed response cause by it, I ripped my screen protector off. I've decided with an Oleo phobic coating and Gorilla Glass, it should stand up ok to daily wear and tear. If not, I have a warranty as well as insurance, so no big deal. I'll try to post screens of the phone after a week, 2 weeks, etc, to see if there's any degradation of quality or cosmetic scratches. Meanwhile, does anyone else going naked wanna share their experiences?

I'm with the Epic, but so far so good here! I have a scratch on the keyboard, but there's no way to protect that. Otherwise, it's all good :)

I have found that there is no need for a screen protector. The screen is extremely resiliant and keys, nails, and other bumpy objects in my pocket and in my backpack can't even scratch the screen. The screen is still as buttery smooth and perfect as the day I got it. The rest of the phone however is a different story. I am concerned that an awkward drop will finish it. I already ordered a Body glove case and once that comes things'll be good. I have used my phone for 2 weeks now and I treated with good case.

I have the body glove on mine, and so far it's great. I came from an iPhone in an Otterbox, though, and would love to have one for the Captivate. I think I could have whipped the thing at a wall with no harm in the Otterbox.

I also have bodyglove protection and removed my screen protector. I like the tactile feel on glass. I am particular about where I carry my Captivate, but feel confident in glass. 3 weeks in and no problems. <knock on wood, head> cheaha bill. Enjoy your comm.

I think most are using the non-snap on BG cover that is sold at most ATT stores. Bit pricey at $30 but I've had no problems with it so far.
