I have had my Evo for four days now and there is deffinatly things I miss about my Pre especially when I see my wife using it now.. but over all the Evo is an incredible piece of equipment! And I am slowly getting used to Android.. I do have to ask though..what kinds of things will rooting my evo get me? My pre was pimped out since day one with everything and I'm just wondering what enhancements rooting this would get me? Thanks in advance, the WebOs community was amazing and I will miss some of the good people I met but as Deiter from pre central says u guys or I should say us guys are not that bad either....ha

welcome pdog and congratulations on upgrading to the EVO:p

This community is full of great info. If you're specifically looking for information on hacks/root/ROMs then head on over to the ROM/Hacks section where you'll surely find enough information to keep you busy reading for hours on end.

Most stuff has been discussed thoroughly so give the search function a try if you don't immediately see what you're looking for and if you still can't find it just fire away and someone or multiple people will be helping out in no time at all.

When you're ready to root that EVO we'll see you over there.

Just to echo others, welcome to Android!!

Rooting is similar to patches with the exception that its generally all packaged together in one nice ROM. If you've used windows mobile, it's a very similar experience. As someone else said check out the rooting forum first and then prepare to truly open up Android.

Just switched from the Pre to the Evo last Thursday. Took me a day to get used to not swiping cards and using the back button. But now I don't have any issue. My on screen typing is getting better too.

Welcome. I to miss my Pre. I just wish Palm would of created a device just like this. I would still be on web OS. It's sad to say, someone dropped the ball.

Switched to the Evo, miss a lot about WebOS, Precentral, and Preware especially........ But I'm loving the hardware, screen and apps.

The Pre was a decent device but I can say with confidence that there is nothing that I miss about it. It wasn't bad, but it isn't as good as Android. I don't think that it is even as good as BB OS 5. But that's just my assessment. It definitely wasn't a hard switch for me. Actually, everything that I wasn't getting with my Pre I got with my EVO.

I miss some of the elegance of WebOS but I love the Evo's hardware so far after 2 weeks. I use my Evo like a tablet at home, I only get out my laptop if I really need to. My only problem now is finding an Evo at full price to get my wife.

One thing I have not seen mentioned regarding Evo-it is a super phone as in phone call quality-far superior to Pre

I agree with dwaynewilliams 100%... The Pre wasn't a bad phone.. Just the Evo and android is better for me. Everything I longed for with the Pre, and my windows phones for that matter, I now have.

I also switched from Pre to HTC EVO last Thur and I am absolutely delighted with this phone. I was a hard-core Palm guy for years and really liked my Pre and WebOS. Unfortunately, the h/w platform sucks.

i also switched from the pre to evo 2 thursdays ago, and i havent looked back. i was very hardheaded and waited for new hardware but its tough to see apple and android getting updated and seeing them put out new hardware very fast while palm stays put. i kept on waiting but i felt like i was way to obsessed so a friend of mine got me into looking at the evo and im so thankful. everything i was waiting for the pre i have already with the evo, and i barely use my laptop only when its convenient, but yeah, me and my gf are very happy with our evo's ill probably root mine when i have time or when its a one click process instead

I just switched from webOs about an hour ago. Just waiting for it to come in the mail hopefully tomorrow. bye bye webOs, I thought I'd miss you but each time I use my Pre it's becoming more clear I won't. =)

I really enjoyed WebOS....Multitasking was wonderful and the UI was smooth. I gave Palm a honest chance...The hardware was horrible, I question if it was bad luck or bad Palm quality but in the end I ended up burning through three Pre's....I pamper my phones....all three never touched the earth. I have really enjoyed my Evo and honestly a few days ago my wife asked if I was still happy with my Evo. I responded with "yes its been a great phone" she said "this is a first....your normally swapping a phone out every six months or so".......Would I go back? Yes in a heart beat if Palm built a power house....big screen, physical keys, better build quality, app support. The only thing that kills me about my Evo is every few months this thing takes a giant sh-- on me....power the phone up and Sense UI has lost all everything. I really dislike having to set everything back up again....I really miss the built in functionality (backup) WebOS had....very nice. I hope Google incorporates some sort of backup functionality in the future where a simple phone swap has some sort of seamless restoration and transition capability. I dunno though.....I love technology and technology has it flaws...in the end I have really enjoyed the Evo.

Love my EVO, but sometimes miss my Pre, particularly when I play with my son's Pixi (yes, he's secure in his masculinity) and get to remember how neat the OS is.

Overall, I'm glad that I made the change.

Switched a couple of weeks ago. I love webos and when better hardware and more apps come I will go back. Android is nice too but not as simple as webos.

I wont be going back. Period. Whatever issue/problems my evo might have - i'll find a way around it.

You might as well stay with Android. Honestly the only phone that stands a chance against Android might be iPhone... but that's only because iPhone has a bunch of users already. Android is the new phone OS to have, you'll see what I mean in the next few months.

TOPIC: if HTC sense is the only thing holding you back then try launcher pro or something. It's amazing how many android users don't take advantage of Android... they think stock is he only/best option... its not.

The day I got rid of sense is the first day I started to realize what android is capable of. I will never be locked down by another mobile OS as long as android is here.
