I am running bugless beast at 1ghz with setcpu set at 1000mhz max and 250 min.... my phone averages about 90F. Normal? it goes down to about 64 and all the way up to 115 so i just dont wanna over heat the phone

I am running the sameish... BBv1 with Nexheme same kernel speeds. I get about the same temperature.

no your not going to overheat the processor at those temps worry when it gets into the mid to high 50s

mid to high 50s? they're averaging in the 90s. i'm planning to root and install setcpu but i want to monitor the temps also. what is optimal temp range?

Bizz means 50 celcius. If the temps you mentioned are in Fahrenheit then you are all good. If you can feel your phone getting really hot then be concerned. If it is just a little warm then you shouldn't worry. Use your best judgment also make sure you have your setting enabled in setcpu so that when it reaches a certain temp you overclock drops lower. My old setting was when it would reach about 37 degrees Celsius I would had it drop to 250-550

gotcha. thanks, bitfix. that makes sense. i got lost in the celsius vs Fahrenheit translation/conversion. i just don't want to sacrifice cpu life.

not a problem. i would set it to Celsius just because it is used commonly when people talk about cpu/battery temps and this way it is easier for you to compare your readings with theirs. also another good way to make sure your cpu doesn't over heat is to install the app "temp monitor" in the market. the free version is good enough to not buy the paid one. it will show you your cpu's temp and also you can set the option to have the cpu temp listed in your notification bar. i wouldn't recommend adding it to your notification bar because the battery dies faster (from my experiences) but it is a great feature to enable if you feel your temps are too high and want to make sure how high it goes up while in normal use of the droid.

i just want rom manager to work so i can add a rom and over clock. i dont feel like going through the process to do it manually but if it doesnt get fixed by tomorrow im gonna just say screw it and do it manually. i kind of want to try succulent desire theme.

what kind of trouble are you having with rom manager? a friend of mine bought the paid version last night and says he loves it.

i'm new to the whole flashing rom's thing, as you can see by my "nanite" designation. i've heard good things about cyanogen and jrummy rom's. bugless beast is fairly uninspiring from what i've read, tho.

it works now. it had to do with Koush's servers from what i heard. right now im running Pete's BB with nextheme skin. it runs pretty good but im not sure if im going to stick with it. i kind of want to try suculent desire but i cant find any pics online. i usually like to hear some feedback or see what it is before i install a rom just so i know what to expect, especially because i hate, hate, hate, H A T E!!!! having to reinstall my apps and signing into all of the apps haha.

as to the roms that you have mentioned; Cyanogen's is the base of most roms out now and he set the standard for rom quality so you can never go wrong with that. JRummy's roms are all themed cyanogen roms just with different colors and some extra's and he also removed certain apps which is good. the only problem i have found while using any of JRummy's roms is that if you want to change your rom you are going to have to reinstall a clean cyanogen rom and then install the new rom. If you don't then no matter what you try to load it will go back to JRummy's even if you wipe device. i dont know why it does this but it is somewhat of an aggravation. Pete's BB is a pretty solid build especially with the theme options. it is def a little more simple than cyanogen's but i think that also adds to the smoothness a bit. the device doesnt have to process some of the extra thing as well as it seems to do a little better with temps. the only thing that is kind of annoying is that since he recomends to only use the kernals that he selected the slot breakups are different then what im used and prefer. his 7 slot 1 ghz lv kernal breaks down as 250/500/550/600(i think its 600)/750/900/1000. i usually like to set it to 550-800 but with this kernal i can't do it.

overall each theme in rom manager is a well build one. it all comes down to preference and in most cases (since 95% are all themed cyanogen roms) it's is just different colors and icon skins.

your best bet is to check out cyanogen's forum and looks at all of the theme threads and see which one will interest you the most. trial and error until you find the best one for your interest. if you make a backup before you install a new rom (even if you wipe or not) you can always go back to that backup and the best thing about it is that it backs up all of your apps and data and settings so you don't have to re-do anything.

are you sure it's cpu temp and not battery temp? sounds like battery temp to me but don't get me wrong i am not coming at you saying your wrong, just trying to give you suggestions that's all.

i can't find any differences really from 4.0 to 4.5. i do have drocap2 screen shots if you would like i can post of it. just let me know

thanks, bitfix! that helped A LOT. i went through the process last night of flashing SPRecovery, going to bugless beast to get rooted, then installed ROM manager to get to cyanogen. i haven't toyed with any skins or anything yet. you're right, it is a PAIN to have to re-download all my apps and re-do all my settings. i did a back-up with My Backup Pro prior to the whole process (since i couldn't use titanium backup without root access), so is there a way to re-install everything at once using it or should i just re-do it all manually? i've heard that, now that i have rooted and downloaded titanium backup, i can use that backup when i change roms to avoid having to re-enter everything again. are there some roms that you can flash and not have to go through the whole re-entry process again? thanks for all your help!

no problem. The only thing is that if you use a new rom your going to have re-enter all logins and data. I wish there was a way to install the settings from a previous back up but from my knowledge I don't think you can. Titanium backup might but I'm not sure because I have very little experience with it. I do recommend that when you find a rom you like but you want to see what else is out there make the backup and only reenter your info if you think your going to keep it for a while. If I try a new rom but I'm not sure if I like it then ill play with it for a few hours and only enter the stuff that I need and if I really do like it, ill enter everything. If I don't like it then ill just revert to my back up.

Also one good thing about a lot of the different variations of cynogen's rom isvthat it will automatically reinstall your apps. The downside is that it wont install your settings. That's why I recommend using new roms for a little bit and decide if you want to keep it and if not then you can just go back, hastle free.

your recommendations have worked like a dream, bitfix! i'm really diggin' cyanogen mod with smoked glass-esque, but just discovered the omnistar theme i'm using over the cyanogen mod. the cyanogen mod forums are a great resource, man!

how do i find out what kernals are recommended for which mods/themes? i want to overclock (have setcpu installed) to more effective/optimal levels.

thanks!
