Good, small, androids?

My iPhone 4 is finally on its last legs and I'm definitely ready to ditch Apple. Part of the reason I haven't upgraded is it seems like all the best phones coming out have these massive, 4.7" screens and the associated bulk and weight. Seems weird, only a few years ago, thinner and smaller was associated with "premium" quality, dunno what's happening in the mobile market. Anywho. I tried a windows phone, HTC 8X, but again it was way too big.

The reason I'm here is the HTC first piqued my interest in Android. It looks compact, and the Facebook Home stuff looks intriguing. From what I can tell the specs aren't terrible either.

Just wondering if there are any other smaller Androids out or in the pipeline that don't compromise on specs. Also, since I'm new to Android, I don't really know what the minimum processor and RAM are for a good experience... Would the First really be that much slower than a One?

ETA: price is not really a concern.

Thanks!

I am not sure what carrier you have but the Motorola droid RAZR M is a small phone with a big screen. It has a 4.3 but a very small bezel and is light to hold. Its for Verizon.

Thanks for the reply, I'll look into that one.

Should have mentioned, I'm contract free so will move to whatever carrier has the best phone.

Well I would suggest Sony as the battery of Sony phone last longer than most other android brands, and battery is a major issue with android. In terms of specs the ROM and CPU should not be lower than 1gb for a good experience (with the system running android version lower than 4.0)

Thanks for the reply. Samsung's designs really don't do it for me aesthetically unfortunately. Don't think I could get over the appearance factor.

As you said Samsung's designs really don't do it for you, i suggest you to get the HTC one , you can look for it online. My first android phone is HTC.

As far as small phones, the only ones I can recommend are the Motorola Droid Razr M and the HTC One S.

Droid RAZR M would be your best bet.

Our daughter has one, finally got to hating her iPhone and loves the RAZR M.

The Samsung Stellar is quite the powerhouse, it scores 4800 on the quadrant standard test and it's pretty fast, not to mention it's free lol

If you can wait a little bit more there should be a Galaxy S4 mini. Otherwise the Droid Razr M is the only one that comes to mind. I'd also suggest for small size the iPhone 5.

I got one of this little sleepers in November. Thing's quick... it does have its drawbacks though. The camera kind of stinks (Didn't need a good camera in my phone, so I don't care) and it's internal storage is limited at 4G (2G usable). But I don't dump a bunch of heavy data apps on it, so for me, its not an issue. But its one of the cheapest, fastest and smallest 4G phone out there. The 4.1.2 update runs awesome on it... there were a few stability issues in ICS that are long gone.

People might crap on the thing, but its tiny, fast and cheap...

Yea man, that's the only problem, the camera!

HTC ONE S is pretty small and it's quite powerful, especially if rooted!
