Hi everyone. I had a RAZR MAXX before and recently just left my Samsung S2. I really liked that both of those devices used a standalone music player that didn't stream music, and stored it all on the internal device or the SD card, and played straight from there. This new RAZR MAXX HD doesn't utilize that anymore, and uses Google's Play Music, which sucks. It wants me to upload all my music to their site, then download it all to my phone. Well, that stuff skips a lot and I'm not entirely confident in something that originally wanted me to stream all of my own music.

Having said that, is there a downloadable app that works well for a standalone music player, that will allow me to maintain my itunes music and playlists? The old RAZR MAXX did this so well. Thanks!

I use Poweramp. In my opinion, it is, by far, the BEST music player on the Play Store. Doubletwist is, also, a great music player. The paid version of Doubletwist can directly sync with iTunes, I believe.

When Google Music Player wants you to upload your music to the cloud, don't do it. Simply play the music off your SD card. Simple. Be sure to back up your music to a hard drive somewhere so you always have copies.

If you buy music from Google Play you are given the option to download it locally or store it in the cloud (or both, I think).

I second DB Poweramp. I think it's the best by far..

I've used PowerAmp and PlayerPro. I've continued go use PlayerPro as I prefer it over the rest.

I like TuneWiki. I like getting the lyrics when I play a song.

You dont have to go to that hassle to use Google Play music. First, download/install free app ISYNCR. It will read your Itunes playlist, and download to your phone. then Set GPM to only use "on device" music. Works great for me.

I'm curious what standalone players are available that (1) do not run in the background as the Google app does and (2), is recognized by Google Now to play by voice commands? I've tried several and haven't found one to do both. So far, they either run in the background or, are unresponsive to Voice Commands.

I too am looking for a player for my Maxx HD. Google lay skips and has dropouts and it generally worthless now. The old player used to be better. Its pretty frustrating when you can't even listen to a song all the way through without some dropout or glitch.

I tried Player pro. It glitches too. So, the hunt continues.

Saw this and it set me off to try on my device. Playing music by voice recognition is supposed to be a built-in feature of Google Search. If you say "Listen to <song title>" it's supposed to start playing that song on the stock Google Music app. This doesn't work on my Maxx HD. When I say "Listen to <song title>" I get web search results.

I've done extensive searching on this problem. Some report it worked flawlessly before the JB update. Others say it works on some days and on other days it doesn't. A how-to article I saw said the "Listen to" voice command was tricky. It sure would be convenient if this function worked as advertised.

Poweramp for preferred music.
MortPlayer for audiobooks and non-lyric music for studying.
MortPlayer is pretty cool and free. 2 different players that can source from different folders and yet use only one widget.

composed by my imaginary construct for you.
