Goodbye Evo 3D, It's a shame you had to be on sprint

It's a sad day, but I have to finally make the decision that many before made. I have to leave my Evo 3D. It hasnt even been a year since I was amazed by its beautiful 3d display and smooth dual core processor... however this fine device was dragged down by its carrier.

I love sprints unlimited everything, but I just cant take the awful speeds. Standing in the middle of downtown pittsburgh (supposedly a 4g area) i cant get a signal. My 3g speeds are okay but every time i use my motorola xoom on verizon's 4g I get jealous of my own tablet...

I just bought a Droid Razr and dispite being about an hour outside the nearest big city, I got a decent 4g signal giving me an amazing 7000+ kbps (compared to my 600+ on sprint 3g and 5000 on my home wifi).

I'm REALLY hoping other carriers start offering unlimited plans again or sprint drastically improves their coverage and network speeds... but for now I have to say goodbye to all you fine 3vo users.

Can't say as I blame you one bit. :'( ........... Good luck with your new toy!! :D

Yeah. Former evo 4g and current epic touch owner. Would have gone to big red and got a gnex if they didn't limit data and I didn't have a corporate plan with sprint for $68.(all unlimited tax and insurance included!) I just can't double my monthly bill right now. I'm already I'm for $110 a month for the old ladys iPhone....ugggh

the price stings a bit, but I work 11pm - 7am doing security.... my phone is basically the only thing i can do to keep me awake, and the sprint speeds are just awful, i cant watch an SD youtube video without constant buffering

Well lucky for us Sprint is doing NV updates so hopefully these issues will be a thing of the past.

Im hopeful that in the next 6 months these issues will be fixed. At least for me, being in one of the first LTE markets that is. LOL

Sorry to hear that, but i understand. Hopefully you'll get the best out of the next carrier and device you choose.
As for me..I guess luck is by my side...where I live I'm getting awesome 4G, 3G and WiFi connections.

Good luck. :)

Speeds will be getting better for most soon as network vision is complete...

Best info for it is on S4GRU.com...

The sad thing is that even if speeds get better our 3dvo's are obsolete because if you don't have a 4G Wimax tower where you are you won't be getting one ever. I too signed up with big red yesterday after 12 years with Sprint. But the speeds here in MI are horrendous. 4G on Verizon is averaging 12mbps and I am loving it. I hate the fact that my bill is higher, and i have to watch my data, but I believe Sprint is only offering unlimited data because it knows how horrible and practically unusable it is in the majority of the country. With Sprint gradually removing discount after discount every quarter pretty soon the noticeable price difference will become negligible. I wanted to stay loyal, but Sprint has forced ny hand. Just wish I didn't have to pay this damn $350 ETF!

I dont think there is a Sprint PRL in this country that could possibly help out with this OP's signal issues.
Unless I have 4G when I'm out, i try not to even use anything that's data related, it is just flat out embarrassing. Even
at home I dont use my data, always WiFi. they should have called the original one the Evo 3G... why try and brag about something if its not even available everywhere yet.

I get a great signal also! I've never dropped my signal once, and get 4g quite a bit.

There are some nice 4G spots NW of Atlanta (where I'm at) but sadly my house is in a deadzone...not even 3G here. SIGH.

I get real good 4G on my EVO3D in Pgh when I go to a bar at Penn & 16th st bridge, I can pull in a 4g signal 5-10Mbps. no problem. Old thick brick, I-beam internal structure, tin ceiling above the drop ceiling. 2nd floor of a 3 floor building. Next to the old Whollys. I'll be tagging songs and pulling in youtube videos for them. Now where I live in TroyHill, barely a bar, Rt28 excelent. I know sometimes when traffic is backed up on the W. End bridge, I'll kick on the 4G to check out the traffic cams to see where the hold up is on the parkway. As far as WiFi goes at home, it does 20-25Mbps (FIOS).

I will say though with all the hills around here, 4G can be a hit or miss situation. I did notice in Cleveland where it is a bit flatter, 4G does seem to be more consistant.

Now the 3G Uh um.............
slow, erratic, no matter where I go.
YMMV

Sorry to see you leave, as the old saying goes "The Grass is Always Greener on the other side of the fence"

Personally when I am out in the area I live I only get 3G service, to be honest that is really fast enough for what I need, At work I get descent 4G service ( 2Mb to 6Mb down) and when in San Francisco the 4G service is great (Once I peaked out 25Mb/Down 11Mb/Up but must have been standing under the damn tower). I so rarely turn 4G on I could not justify the cost increase for the service As I would rather have a battery that lasts me the day then higher speeds data.

It's all about what you can live with. My speeds and service are more than adequate 90% of the time. 3G speeds are between 600kb and 1.2Mb and 4G is about 2Mb to 7Mb. Plenty fast enough for me considering I can use as much date as i want...and I do.

The thing that really made me jump is the offer they had to give you double the data if you get a 4g phone... so i bought their $80 (a lot, yes) data plan and get 20gb... which is hopefully more than i will ever need

I'm not paying too much more than i was to chip in to my old sprint family plan

My first Evo 3D barely connected to 4G signals. I replaced it and it worked perfectly.

I totally agree with you OP. Sprint's service is absolutely embarrassing. It's pretty much 56k. But I'll see how their service goes until my two years are up. If the 3G speeds stays at .01-.06 and their 4G (assuming I get anything, which I never do if I'm indoors) stays 1.0-1.5, I might have to just settle with a higher phone bill and a tiered data plan.

I love the unlimited data, but the fact that you can't even stream music because it's so slow, is just not even fair for the users.
