Goodbye to my Bionic

If I were still stuck on vzw, I'd be looking at either the g2 or an s4. I'm super happy with my s4 gpe. And the vzw s4 has ss now so rom flashing is possible.

Carved in blood by a wakizashi...

Well, I guess the thread title is still valid for me...since it will move on to be my wife's daily driver! :D

Thanx to the VZW "Pa-Paw Glitch", I have a new Moto X and another full two years for T-Mo to discover SW VA!

I jumped in on the same deal. :)

Hello Moto X.

It has been fun and for me the bionic was a great phone but got a Maxx last night so time to move on.

I upgraded to an LG G2 in a way that kept my unlimited data, and I am amazed at the difference in performance. It seems like my Bionic has been slow and lagging for so long that I had started to consider the substandard performance normal, but I held on to it hoping for a solution from Motorola with an SD card slot and a removable battery. Since I've been using the G2 for over a month now, I see that my concerns about battery life and storage were groundless. However, if I would have had time to root my Bionic again and experiment with different ROMs, I feel that I could have gotten better performance out of it and made it last a little longer.

How do you like it so far? I'm thinking about doing the same thing especially since the price dropped down on the Maxx.

Just a side-note for those sticking with your Bionic for the time being, they are dirt cheap on Ebay right now used. Mine started randomly dropping 4g and giving me the dead radio constantly, so got one in near-mint condition for $68 shipped last week. Amazing how worthless smart phones become after only a few years, worse than computers even. Just a heads up if you need a replacement for whatever reason.

So, I keep seeing references to how KitKat will be usable by even "low spec" phones. Bionic is not that, but from what I've seen samurihl post in the past, the Bionic has limitations will not let it advance beyond 4.1.2. I'm wondering if this is still the case? While I've moved on myself to a company provided S3, I still have the Bionic and could use it for non-carrier dependent functions. I'd be more inclined to do that if it was more up to date than it is now.

Wait what? There's no technical limitations preventing the Bionic from running beyond 4.1.2 other than Motorola incompetence. LOL! Hardware wise it's perfectly capable as evidenced by all the post 4.1.2 kexec roms available. I had heard that the Bionic was supposed to get a maintenance release (still 4.1.2) at some point but I've heard nothing from that since. These Moto clowns can't even get a phone that's less than a year old up to 4.2.2 so I'd not hold out any hope of an OMAP miracle. The X just got updated over the past 4 weeks to another 4.2.2 build with 4.3 nowhere in sight. I'm personally done with all things Moto at this point. They're sinking fast.

Incompetence? Probably more like the resources are no longer at Motorola or those resources have moved onto new projects. :)

I think the limitation is because it is a locked phone and Motorola is very slow at releasing updates. The Kernel can't be updated to a later version, which is why kexec roms allow you to run 4.2+ roms. Kexec means that it loads the kernel into memory during boot, instead of replacing the stock kernel. Sam can correct me if I'm wrong here.

WHEN was Moto ever good at getting updates out in a timely manner? Ever? Droid 1? That's about it. I'm still waiting for 4.1.1 for my Xoom LTE. Moto is TERRIBLE at getting updates out the door. The RAZR M and HD? They got 4.1.2 after the Bionic and still don't have 4.2.2. I call it as I see it...incompetence. I'm done defending the horrible practices at Moto.

100% correct on all counts.

But updates don't matter as much to me (and most regular users). :)\

Plus none of those devices were Nexus devices.

Ry...Sam...howcum we're still hangin' around hereabouts, huh??!?

Hard to get away from that OMAP experience, ain't it?

Well, Sam's got an excuse...sorta...HoB and all.
