Google App/Google Translate Won't Close

My daughter has an HTC Desire 626 and she was using the Google App to translate spanish to english. The app now remains open in the background and won't stay closed. I've pulled up her recent apps and closed everything, but if you go right back into recent apps, it's still open. If you tap on the app, it won't re-open. I've attached a screenshot. Tried doing a hard reset with no luck. Hoping to avoid doing a factory reset. Any suggestions? Thanks.

That was a no go. Any other ideas before I do a reset?

How about going to Settings>Apps​, selecting the Google app, and Clear Cache/Data?

That was one of the first things I tried. Went through a few of the common troubleshooting steps before posting here. No biggie, I went ahead and factory reset her phone and everything is fine now. Thanks, B Diddy.
