I got an update to my Google app yesterday and another one today but still no Google assistant yet... I just want to find out if there is anyone that has gotten the assistant on their marshmallow device via the Google update.

Still waiting impatiently. Hopefully by this weekend. The announcement was Tuesday which is the day they started rolling it out so it should be soon

My ZTE Zmax Pro (MetroPCS/Android 6.0.1/2 GB RAM) got it on Thursday.

My wife's Zmax Pro with same specs did not get it yet.

BTW, I found it by accident. I accidentally held down the home key and usually Google Now on Tap comes up but this time the Setup screen for Assistant came up.

EDIT: I just updated apps on my LG G3 (stock Marshmallow) and Google Assistant set up screen set up. I don't use my G3 as a daily driver and it now has Assistant.

Who knows how Google is rolling it out. So many S7 EDGE owners are getting it. I didn't. Boohoo

Ok I just got a version 6.14.16.21.Arm update to the Google App and with it came the Google Assistant....In all it's Glory.
Uninstalling Allo and awaiting the Nougat update.

I've had it on my MXPE for a few days now I believe... Haven't set it up or played with it yet..... I use Moto voice which uses Google now, which should now be assistant. I haven't noticed any difference in my day to day usage.

Nope and don't want it. Something I don't need.

Moto Voice is disabled. Phone works the way I want. Good launcher (Nova) hides the rest.

I just wanted the speed of the new processor for some apps (very large databases), not the extras.

Anything personal, I use a computer - either Linux or one that allows plenty of NOs through the firewall.

How do you mean speed of a new processor?? Google Assistant can help you get the work done faster than you think... Launching an app from any screen, sending an SMS from any screen.. it can even let you unlock your phone without using your hands. How fast is that?

OK GUYS I JUST DOWNLOADED GOOGLE ASSISTANT!!!!!!!!!!

That's right... I DOWNLOADED it!!

Well not the assisyant itself but I went to apkmirror and downloaded the very latest version of the Google app!!! Since the announcement I've been constantly checking the version of the Google app that I have and it was (6.14.16.21.arm64) I think that number (64) means that its a BETA and does not contain the assistant. But I went to apkmirror and downloaded (6.14.16.21.arm) without that number 64 at the end and presto! The Google assistant is part of the initial setup! So if you want the assistant and can't wait here's your golden nugget!! Cheers!

Yes that's the same Google App that gave my device access to Google Assistant

The 64 means 64 bit processor .....
Also you should be matching the version with your phone. If your phone is arm64 and you have downloaded a different version it could cause serious issues going forward.
Also the version you have should have no impact on Google Assistant. It was coincidence...The rollout is done by username.

Nah! The version of the Google App you have determine if you'd get the assistant or not.

That seems to have been true for me. I've only had my unlocked LG G5 a little less than 2 weeks, received the 2017-01-01 security patch right after phone purchase and a few days later I accidentally pressed the home key a few seconds and Google Assistant appeared. I'm pretty sure it installed after an app update.

I don't have anything on my phone that Google can help me with.

I have no social anything, and I have programs that provide the lookups I need.
For instance:
Wildflower
color
shape
number of petals
leaves
type

you get the drift. Google would just throw up what it thinks I want rather than my Wildflower app which does ask pertinent questions.

Same for astronomy.

I don't do maps on the phone. I don't shop in town if I can avoid it. Google only gives local answers by zip code.

I don't lock the phone. Bluetooth, NFC disabled. Only apps I use and none are personal except text, and I prefer Chomp.

All these programs have exceedingly large databases. Some will not update over phone data, you need wifi.

I have birding apps. I'd like the program to open before the bird flies away. That's speed.
