Google assistant stuck on home button short and long press

I did some dishes and now my home button is rendered useless. Both short and long press brings me to Google assistant, only I can't use it with my account(which I don't want to anyway) and now I can't access my main screen unless I close out of all apps. This is terrible! I disabled s voice and even went into Google settings and under search where you access assistant there is no option to turn it off.

This actually haopened to my.wife who.has a note 5, wether it is a short or.long press, it goes straight to google assistant. I'm combing through the Google settings as we speak, as I really don't want to download an app launcher.

Any insight? This jas been happening to my SGS7E and it has no damage whatsoever. Short and long press are both Google freaking Assistant and it sucks. I don't need Google Assistant.
