Google bans Huawei:Are you worried?

Re: Huawei has immediately lost access to Android and Google

US lifts Huawei ban, but only temporarily and in a limited scope
After a day of speculating about the company’s future, the Department of Commerce has given Huawei a temporary license to maintain its current products (via Reuters).

Huawei’s limited license is only in effect through August 19, 2019. The permit allows the company to work with U.S. corporations to support current customers. The Shenzhen-based company will be able to maintain business relationships with Google, Intel, Qualcomm, and others to release software updates to existing hardware.

This 90-day general license is also good news for some smaller regional networks that rely on Huawei’s infrastructure. Two regions that were already affected by the company’s ban were rural areas of Wyoming and Oregon.

What if all chinese manufacturers boycott all US softwares ? Xiaomi, huawei makeup 40% of phone hardware market.
Google will be crying then.

This sucks for consumers as now everyone will be wary of Huawei phones. The 90 days extension just makes it worst...

I don't see how that would help the Chinese manufacturers or their customers. Besides, this is not Google's doing.

Re: Huawei has immediately lost access to Android and Google

Huawei user here. This has only angered me personally and further enforced my will to stick with Huawei hardware. The sooner they release Hongmeng OS, the better.

Such a cheap tactic by the US Gov.

Own two Huawei devices deciding to just carry on per usual as we like the devices so much. Gonna "grin and bear it" and whatever happens happens... Have backup devices so we're covered LOL.

Re: Huawei has immediately lost access to Android and Google

Just heard on NPR that the ban has been postponed until August.

Edit: saw that this was mentioned above already.

Yeah I love my Huawei phones but I don't like that I have a new model that STILL is running Oreo. Q is about to come out and I don't even have Pie yet. Maybe I'll never get it. With that, this explains why I am looking for a different phone. Google isn't to blame in this mess. Huawei treated their American customers like crap with updates. If Huawei chooses to build their own OS, it will spell doom for them. People like Android, not some Huawei OS.

I agree but as they say you never try you never know. And the same could be said about apple but they still made it. If everyone wasnt willing to try "some Apple OS" Apple wouldnt be where it is today.

There's a distinct difference in that at the time Apple released the iPhone no one was committed to any real serious operating systems. Smart devices were in their infancy. A lot of people are already immersed or heavily vested in the Android or IOS ecosystems...some people are in both.

People that don't buy paid apps might transition easier. Not saying it can't happen but these are different times.

Re: Huawei has immediately lost access to Android and Google

What about the Canadian market!? We have and do sell HUAWEI devices here no issue.Or is it a "sofar" attitude? Are we eventually also going to secumb to the Americans in their bans, sanctions, and black listing of Chinese tech companies? Since I just got my HUAWEI device and using on Rogers!..Of course I'm worried about the end of life coming Aug19th,2019. when the ban extension is up!!?!?

Just got a P30PRO .....and love it.!!!

And what? Business as usual.. SMH.

Name any G20 nation that doesn’t practice same methods or rely on a G5 nation to do for them for the same reasons. We’re just better at it since it’s part of the culture and DNA since the Pilgrims came. It’s basically part of the reason our country’s founding and biggest driver of success. Hardly perfect, although #2 in anything is first place loser.... my kids only like their first place trophies. There’s not a lot of them but it’s their attitude that lets me know they'll be survivors in life.

So I’m not worried about the ban. I’m looking forward to ramping it up. It does seem that many Americans have started to wake up their us or them attitude.

Re: Huawei has immediately lost access to Android and Google

Well I just upgraded to a P30 Pro on Rogers Wireless and this phone is blazing fast. I really like it and I got the free gt Classic Smartwatch promo.

Please clarify not understanding what your getting at!?
Are you meaning the placement of the USA as #2 in the global telecom? China is really #1 .

The "yanks" have no evidence of ANY security breaches active past present or future. What it's looking like is that CHINA is becoming the world's largest global power house and with politics is shunning the Chinese power as the largest. So it does seem more like pettiness and jealousy.
Its not even conflict

The Yanks have been asked exactly what evidence they have against Huawei repeatedly and have never provided anything.

**** this.

None nada no effect yet, everything works as usual. P30 pro on Rogers wireless network. Aug19th is the deadline tho. I'm not gonna get rid of my device anytime soon.......i really like it alot.

Anyone with a Huawei phone see the affects yet ? It was mentioned it would take affect immediately.

That's getting political (and as a yank who isn't too happy with the current state of affairs, I'm not anyone's "fanboi") and this is a cellphone forum, so let's keep the politics where it belongs/ We have a forum for general conversation (if you keep it respectful - no name-calling).

@Jean Lai Kan,
It depends on who had whose ear that morning. If you have a government to lend us poor ungoverned people in the US, ...

:-[:confused::'(

Why ban & then postpone until August. Why not just ban in August?
Not well thought or well thought bargaining strategy?
It's part of Trump's ongoing strategy of keeping his enemies guessing. He is constantly throwing out the worst case scenario threats and then walking back. It's actually a pretty useful technique when used sparingly. Problem is, Trumpkins uses that strategy all the time. I would think that, eventually, it'll turn into a boy who cried wolf situation, and nobody will believe his threats anymore. Huawei has a lot to lose with this, so Trump has the definite upper hand.

Hey I'm just calling a spade a spade. It's all politics and policies. Who created and authorized the "entity list" anyways!? Getting a companies jugular is disconnecting their income stream. Then charge billions in fines and if can't pay, their business shuts down. From a Canadian viewpoint, I'm standing at the cliff (as a Canadian)observing jealously, bad politicking, and bullying.I want to be clear on this, I'm not attacking ANY BODYS viewpoint political or otherwise. The observation I've made following this story is that the American government(not Americans) are clearly denouncing HUAWEI'S position as the largest telecom globally. The US government is testing Huawei to see if such a big company can hemmorage and survive. If it's not politics, what is it then!?
