Google bans Huawei:Are you worried?

Re: Huawei has immediately lost access to Android and Google

Huawei user here. This has only angered me personally and further enforced my will to stick with Huawei hardware. The sooner they release Hongmeng OS, the better.

Such a cheap tactic by the US Gov.

Great so no android Q for my p20 pro then? This sucks so much. Best start looking for another phone for June next year. Seems it's going to affect us here in the UK too.

Absolutely cheap tactic.

What is hilarious is that the US government was supposedly worried that companies like Huawei would have to succumb to some sort of pressure from Chinese government, yet all we are seeing is a US company having to succumb to US government decision.

For everybody complaining. Pick a side to support and go with it. Teach President Trump a lesson and support the other side. Seems pretty simple. We’re looking out for ourselves. Do the same.

Here in USA the brand has not been well received beyond cheap devices. Carriers only carried prepaid far as I’ve seen.

Look at you bringing facts to a hyperbole party

From what I've read, access to Google services will remain for phones that are already accessing them. Updates are finished, however.
Any phone that is released after today, however, will have no access to Google whatsoever.

This is also what I heard.

Worried? No. Liking the situation? Also no. I'm still glad I got my P30. It's a nice change from the last 4 LG phones I've had. I guess time will tell how this all plays out. I'll be flipping back and forth between here and XDA for any sort of news over the next few weeks, I suppose.

I wish America the best on this but I fear it will all come back and bite them. 1.4 billion people in china are watching.

Boo hoo, Google and USA government. Can't take the capitalistic pressure no more I see. The very same capitalism that you pushed down their throats those years ago. Sore losers - crush them if you can't compete.

What makes you think this is about capitalistic pressure? Sure, tangentially related to tariffs, etc.

This is an action being taken by the US Commerce Department, due to an executive order relating to national security, based on Department of Justice reports, indicating that Huawei was providing capital, goods or services to Iran in violation of the International Emergency Economic Powers Act. Essentially, the US prohibits companies who trade in the US from trading with Iran in several industries and companies that violate that are subject to direct regulation by the executive branch. Just this past December, Huawei's CFO, Meng Wanzhou was arrested and is still going through hearings in Canada to avoid being extradited to the US to face charges of bank fraud, connected to her covering up business relationships with Iran. ZTE just pleaded guilty to violating that law, paid over $1 billion in fines and has agreed to stop selling their products and services in Iran. According to multiple investigations, Huawei still represents a credible threat of espionage as well, due to the nature of the relationship that Huawei is required to have with the Chinese government. This isn't about cell phones.

Because it's common knowledge that the USA uses strong arm tactics to gets its way. Everything they do is based on monetary gain.

This has almost nothing in the world to do with cell phones. It has to do with sanctions, on a government that the current administration views as hostile, which are being intentionally violated by companies in China. This is a political argument, not anything to do with market-share. This isn't even a move by Google. Google is not doing anything except for following the law, because if they do not, their officers can be arrested and their company can be devastated. Now, is there a sideline thought that causing economic pain to Huawei and ZTE may cause those companies to put pressure on the Chinese government to be more sincere in their negotiations with other countries? Perhaps. But that again, would be the government motivation, not Google's. Google WANTS to have Huawei as a partner because Huawei is one of their biggest business partners in mobile.

My friend’s Mate 20 just had gmail, maps and Google Assistant disabled

Indeed, I agree it has nothing to do with the current administration. Any administrations purpose is primarily a corporate one.
