Question Google calendar notifications on Chromebook

This should be pretty simple but here's my issue. I use the Google Calendar on my Android phone, I have everything synced and I'm trying to get the calendar notifications on my Chromebook. It will work fine as long as I have the calendar open on the Chromebook. Is there a way to get calendar notifications on the Chromebook with the calendar closed? If not how do you keep the calendar open or running in the background ?

As long as an event has a Notification set (and the option is set to Notification rather than Email), it should trigger on the Chromebook whether the site is open in a tab or not. Can you confirm that your events have the Notification option turned on? Also keep in mind that the Notification can be set to trigger any number of minutes to weeks before the event, so make sure that's set to your desired time frame.

It will pop up with a notification if I set up an event on my phone and have the calendar open on the chrome book. But when the calendar is closed on the chrome book I get no notification. Attached is my settings. Looks like the check marks don't show on the PDF but the check box is blue.

Ok, that screenshot is of the main Google Calendar settings -- but can you confirm that a given event that you created is actually set to give a notification? Like in this screenshot:

Yes, I have it to send a notification 1 minute before, it comes up on my phone but not on the Chromebook unless I have the calendar open.

What is weird I get notifications from Facebook and Google messages while closed on my Chromebook but nothing from the calendar.

I tested it, and found the same behavior -- if the Google Calendar tab is closed, the notification won't trigger. It seems like a bug, so I recommend sending feedback to Google using the Report An Issue option under Help in the Chrome settings. In addition, I also noticed that audio notifications were erratic at best, so that's also worth reporting.

In the meantime, you can consider using a nice extension that's one of my favorites, Checker Plus for Google Calendar. It's a handy extension that allows you to access a lot of Calendar features from the toolbar, and it will also trigger notifications even if the Calendar tab is closed. I've used it forever and find the dev to be responsible and responsive. There's plenty of free functionality, but I paid a small amount to gain full features (and to support the dev).

Google very rarely responds to users who send feedback -- all you can do is send the feedback and hope there's a critical mass of other people who have sent in similar feedback such that Google acts on it.
