Google drops the ball with slow kikat rollout

Google just released a fix for Kitkat that's rolling out for the nexus devices that originally got kitkat. That's probably why we haven't gotten our update yet

This is, frankly, BS. Google runs the Nexus program as their hardware, for their purposes. It shouldn't matter who makes it, and they even tout it that way.

Sorry you feel that way. But it doesn't stop it from remaining true. Google simply doesn?t have the amount of control over the hardware that Apple has over theirs.

Take the Gnex as an example. It has HDMI out via the microUSB port. But that is not an Android feature. It?s proprietary Samsung stuff. So when OS updates for the Gnex are available, I?m sure Samsung is involved because of their proprietary stuff.

So it shouldn?t surprise anyone that LG (and Asus) are also involved in the OS update process despite the devices being Nexus.

That said, people need to seriously relax about the OTA update. Next-day updates are not happening; deal with it.
There?s already an updated image file for the N4 so it seems that Google isn?t exactly doing nothing.

Yep. Although Google hasn't explicitly stated this is the problem, at least we now have something. Bug fixes I can understand.

Lmao, now it's a travesty! Oh you guys slay me. All we need now is to get Sally Struthers to make commercials about it and this thread is a wrap

Relax, we're here talking about smartphones, nothing more than that. Take comments such as mine in context.

Moto X gets update prior to nexus phones, definitely a fumble by Google

Is it better to buy future moto devices or nexus phones?

Ya but the 4.4 on the moto's is buggy as hell. Plus 4.4 OTA got released a cuple of hours ago. They had to fix some bugs. So ya. I would still go with nexus since it's pure Google device. Moto devices are moto devices.

The moto x has been updated in one carrier and the rollout began 5 days after the Nexus devices were updated. It is impressive how fast moto moved, but how is it dropping the ball? Nexus devices are getting their 2nd update today ...

There shouldn't be critical bugs to find! They should have tested their code.

Then why do software updates from every company occasionally have major bugs?

Perhaps there was a bug that didn't necessarily show up on all devices, or something of the sort.

You people should be grateful this is Google we're talking about, and not Debian. Not that you can't get updates from them and all that, but in terms of actual official "final release" releases, you're talking about waiting quite a long time between full releases (couple years?)

I am champing at the bit the same as everyone else here is. I check on a daily basis to see if the OTA is there. However, I'd rather have a solid release that took longer to get than a buggy release that I got right away.

What I do wish Google would do is keep the public more in the loop on what's causing the delay. I think they'd get a LOT of street cred if, for instance, they were to say "We have this last-minute bug that we just couldn't figure out earlier. We are most of the way to cracking it, and right now we're looking at another week/two weeks/month. We apologize for the delay and any inconvenience associated with it, but we believe it is more important to give you the best possible software product, which we are always committed to delivering."

Why people and companies are so afraid to admit to problems or anything negative, I just don't understand. Most people I know respect honesty and integrity a heck of a lot more than just about anything else.

I'd second that for the sole reason that two of the devices in my house received that build and if there are security related bugs, That's good info for me to have.

This thread is 9 days old. You all whined like spoiled babies over just 9 little days. Happy now? Diapers all nice and dry?
