Google drops the ball with slow kikat rollout

Moto X gets update prior to nexus phones, definitely a fumble by Google

Is it better to buy future moto devices or nexus phones?

Only the Verizon Moto X. One advantage of the updates in Nexus phones is not just speed, but consistency; all phones get the update at roughly the same time.

This thread is 9 days old. You all whined like spoiled babies over just 9 little days. Happy now? Diapers all nice and dry?

No its been 21 days since the system image of 4.4 for Nexus 5 was released. When the Nexus 7 2013 was announced 4.3 rolled out to all Nexus device beginning that day. It's 3 weeks in and a Google engineer already commented that the rollout will take "weeks".

3 WHOLE WEEKS? Ah, pardon me then, that's totally different! Man, I don't know how we made it 3 weeks. What's that in dog years?

None of this makes any sense considering that within 5-10 minutes anyone with a Nexus who is not wanting to wait can download it and install it themselves. It's the same software with the same scripts, just introduced with a different method.

Were you a bully on the playground? Seriously, people with a nexus expect to get their phone updated before non-nexus phones. We have a right to be pissed when that doesn't happen. How about backing off and letting people vent a bit?

We can vent, we can cry, we can complain but the fact still remains that things don't always go as planned even with Google and the Nexus line.

What we won't tolerate is belittling of others and personal attacks at one another. Keep that in mind please.

Most of this entire thread is way over the top.

Google said, "updating other devices within the next few weeks", then did so. Prior to those weeks being done, a member said they were frustrated that it wasn't faster. A simple answer of, "we're still within the three weeks indicated" should have been the 2nd and final post, but it wasn't. Google then DID release the software (for download) about a week ago, yet page after page still ends up being dedicated to, "it's not here!". Now, both the OTA and the download are available, yet the complaints continue on. Google indicated a few weeks and delivered. What's the controversy? They released the software for all Nexus devices 6 days ago, and sooner than that for the WiFi only tablets. The majority of the posts in this thread have come after the update was available via download.

I definitely understand that people are unsure of what is going on and that causes frustration and they want to talk about it, and I don't think people should refrain from posting. But keep in mind that the flip side, is that it probably takes less energy to just go get it downloaded and installed than to get angry about it. So the original frustration makes sense, until context and solutions are made available (context came on the 1st page, solution came on Thursday), after that it is understandable that people are frustrated that those who are complaining are not doing anything to solve the problem.

Regardless of which side of that you're on, keep in mind that we want to be respectful to other members and discuss issues, not people's intentions, etc. Please keep things on topic.

Only one non-Nexus phone was updated first, and that was itself a Google phone. And besides, the N4 OTA rollout began the same day as the Verizon Moto X update.

And how many phones that aren't a Nexus have 4.4?

100% of Nexus devices had the update available to them for at least 5 days prior to the 1st non-Nexus device receiving an update.

Because venting over a 3 week delay is ridiculous. 3 weeks. NIT is more diplomatic than I am but his reply below says it all. As for me I still stand by what I said - much of this thread isn't venting, it's petulant. There's a big difference between "hey Google, you're more behind schedule than usual for Nexus what gives?" vs. "omg this is an outrage, Google has majorly screwed up!! #endoftheworld #omggooglefailbbq"

Over 3 weeks. By the way, I won't respond to the "schoolyard bully" comment, nor will I report it so if you get nailed with anything on it, it wasn't me. AC mods are pretty level headed people as I've expressed before and Jerry certainly isn't afraid to be blunt either. That's why I like it here and that's why Paul and NIT stepped in without pulling out the infraction sticks.

Personally, I got as big a laugh out of it as I got on my shift today when a crook I was winding up a few hours ago called me all kinds of colorful names much worse than you could come up with. God that was funny.

I think people should have waited to flip **** till after the moto x got the ota.. Thats when its understandable to be upset. That's when I got upset :D but I didn't flip. Just quietly sat in my basement, making arrangements to by the successor of the moto x and slap Google in the face with it. But then the bug fix was announced and all was fine again.

To all the people making sarcastic comments about the world is ending. Understand this. This is a tech board where we can complain ,why the hell must I pretend to not acknowledge a problem that I have and before "lulz first world problems" then so what? Its still a problem. I don't want to be reminded everyday that people are dying of starvation or other things because I give as much money as I can to charities. Please let's take things in context. There is no point into bringing world problems into a thread that is about a delayed update

just give it time. Google are doing better than apple did with ios7. That was released as a beta and tested by developers AND the public for 2 months to "fix bugs" and when it was officially released look at the amount of problems they still had. At least Google fixed the bugs when only a few people had kit kat and most were dealt with before it was even announced.
