Google drops the ball with slow kikat rollout

To all the people making sarcastic comments about the world is ending.

meaning me specifically since I'm the only one who made that comment but hey, at least you respected the forum rules in a loophole kind of way

Understand this. This is a tech board where we can complain

about complaining apparently.

why the hell must I pretend to not acknowledge a problem that I have and before "lulz first world problems" then so what? Its still a problem. I don't want to be reminded everyday that people are dying of starvation or other things because I give as much money as I can to charities. Please let's take things in context. There is no point into bringing world problems into a thread that is about a delayed update

There's a difference between acknowledging a problem and some of the more extreme comments here. I was not addressing the former, and you're ignoring/excusing the latter. If you're going to ask for things to be taken in context you should as well. Not sure who you're championing here, and I don't think you are either. There were only actually a few posts in this entire thread saying things along the lines of what I was talking about and you weren't one of them. And I'm only one of about half a dozen other people who have commented on the over the top impatience of some of these posts in this thread so... I guess you're just trying to pick a fight with me specifically? A little grudge because I disagreed with you earlier perhaps? If that's the case, then I apologize if you took it personally and encourage you to choose the ignore option that's been available to you the entire time if you feel so strongly about my opinions.

If you're unsure how to do that, click my forum profile, and on the left side menu you'll see an option to "add user to ignore list". I hope you find that helpful, if you have any further questions or need further assistance feel free to ask :)

Unless someone can point me to a press release or some other official statement from Google saying that the N4 will always be first to get updates, this was just wishful thinking by a lot of fanboys.

I've been wondering the same thing. I should add though that I agree that this is a tech board and the issue should be discussed. Google gets a lot of valuable feedback from forums like these.

What? I didn't target you. Furthermore I never do or will use the ignore list since IMO it detracts from what a forum is. I have no grudge worth you either because I've agreed with you more then once before.

Fair enough, I got the impression you were and apologize for the mistake

Most of this entire thread is way over the top.

Google said, "updating other devices within the next few weeks", then did so. Prior to those weeks being done, a member said they were frustrated that it wasn't faster. A simple answer of, "we're still within the three weeks indicated" should have been the 2nd and final post, but it wasn't. Google then DID release the software (for download) about a week ago, yet page after page still ends up being dedicated to, "it's not here!". Now, both the OTA and the download are available, yet the complaints continue on. Google indicated a few weeks and delivered. What's the controversy? They released the software for all Nexus devices 6 days ago, and sooner than that for the WiFi only tablets. The majority of the posts in this thread have come after the update was available via download.

I definitely understand that people are unsure of what is going on and that causes frustration and they want to talk about it, and I don't think people should refrain from posting. But keep in mind that the flip side, is that it probably takes less energy to just go get it downloaded and installed than to get angry about it. So the original frustration makes sense, until context and solutions are made available (context came on the 1st page, solution came on Thursday), after that it is understandable that people are frustrated that those who are complaining are not doing anything to solve the problem.

Regardless of which side of that you're on, keep in mind that we want to be respectful to other members and discuss issues, not people's intentions, etc. Please keep things on topic.

Could not agree more.

To add to this, I, for one, would much rather Google delay an update for a few days to apply bug fixes and make sure that everything works than to just throw out a garbage update in order to meet some imaginary time table. Sure, Perhaps KRT16O wasn't "garbage", but the issues it had were potentially significant, so they decided to wait on releasing the OTA until it could be fixed (Source).

The fact is that factory images have been available for anyone that wants to use them (yet another advantage to owning a Nexus). I actually prefer to use factory images when doing major updates because I find things just tend to run better after a clean install. Sure, it takes a little more work and is a definitely a bit more complicated then just hitting "update" for an OTA, but it's not exactly rocket science either, nor does it require any kind of rooting or jailbreaking or hacking or anything else like that -- it's an officially supported method for installing an OS update on your Nexus device. (How to)

Besides that, the OTA files are now available for sideloading as well. (How to)

As I said in another similar thread, I've never suggest anyone attempt to do procedures that they aren't comfortable with...but if it's really that important to you to get the update, it may be something to consider.

I got it yesterday.

Finally.
