Google Hangouts draining battery?

Hey everyone, so today I've been using Google Hangouts mainstream as an IM app and a texting app. Vs Google messenger in the Play Store. I have noticed that my battery drained substantially more so... has anyone else noticed as well? Thank you.

That would be my major complain on just about any android device !
S3, Note 3, Moto X 2013, N7 2013 they all get super hot and battery drained in an instant. I guess Google messed up and for a few years now doesn't know how to fix it. It's really sad.

Oh absolutely dude. I even installed bbm the new updated version yesterday night at work. Then realize it was a better than just as much as cool hand also was :-( I had to side load the apk file for one of the first initial versions of BBM and that black bear says will save massive amounts of battery power per charge. I haven't had an issue since. I'm sure that both of these apps have better drainage issues with screen on time sucking on the application as I don't end up pinging or and send message to someone
