Pretty excited for this, especially being cross platform.

Anyone else having this issue?

It asks me to confirm my phone#, I get a email with a super long confirmation code. I have no place to put it, and it is not a link. How do I verify my phone #?

I haven't even been able to upgrade from Talk to Hangouts yet :-(

Sent from my Nexus 7 using Android Central Forums

Installed already. Works great so far. I'm just wondering if it's free to use it to talk to people around the world, or if it's only free for people in your own country like BBM.

It wont work for me either. I'm still running talk, some how its not leting me update.

Edit. Did it directly form the play store. Works now. How do I know who is online? It shows every single contact that I have.

Need to update through the browser, not the Play Store App for now.
Just send it to your phone via the Website.

Worked fine for me.

I'm in the same boat, though when I go to the website, it shows that it's already installed on my phone. But on my phone, I still have the Talk application showing. My google talk Chrome extension, however, did change to hangouts.

Try updating it from the web version. That did the trick for me.

Why is the right door always locked?

Hasbrobot, its nice that some people are getting the update via the play store, others are forcing it from the play store (web not app) but not everyone is this lucky. Corolla90 just said they tried from the web based play store yet you have suggested exactly that. I'm in the exact same boat as Corolla90, visit https://forums.androidcentral.com/e...02/http://play.google.com/blah&token=VPaCxQnE blah blah link and it says Installed, click it anyway and try to select my phone NOT my tablet and it says it is already installed. I'm still trying to get it to update, considering using root file explorer to delete the talk apk, but not sure on the ripple effects this might have.

If anyone comes across the fix I would love some help too. If I find a fix I will post it ASAP.

I don't know if I'm missing something, but after playing with it a bit on iOS and Android it seems pretty lame. In a couple ways it's a big step back from Google Talk.

- No voice-only chat
- Only seems to work if you have Google+ enabled. Not a big deal for most users, but if you're using Google apps and Google+ isn't enabled you can't add the account. On Android I used to be able to use Google Talk to get my office IMs, but now that I've installed Hangouts (and Google Talk has been disabled on my phone) I can't get them at all.
- It's impossible to tell if a contact is online or not if they haven't set a profile pic. The default silhouette looks the same if it's greyed out or not.
- From what I can tell status is gone. No away/idle/etc.

I like the conversation status syncing between multiple devices, but aside from that I don't really get what thing brings to the table. What's so great about this thing?

Anyone get the desktop notification when someone calls their phone?

I wasn't aware that was a thing... My speakers at work were turned way up all of the sudden SUPER loud ringtone start blasting through my office.

Anyone know how to turn this off? Can't seem to find an option for that.

They just announced sms integration is coming soon so I can bet that more will be coming after that.

Any idea how one can reconcile having the same contact appear multiple times? Also, does it matter which of their cards I click on if they are still on Talk?

Looks like a step way back in some key areas. If I cant quickly determine who is online and available for a chat - the chat program fails at the gate. This is significant because I was using Google Talk's AIM integration - and now I cant tell if it's still supported since the AIM buddies on my Gmail Chat list who are online don't appear anywhere in the new Hangouts app.

There is a way to tell. People who aren't online will have their images faded.
