Google map voice navigation

Interesting that it seems to be isolated to Samsung phones. My Nexus 5 is running the latest version of Maps and working fine.

If you go to System Settings -> Accessibility -> Text-to-speech output are you able to get it to play with Listen to an example?
Yes, and like I said, GMaps is MORE than happy to tell me that GPS signal is lost which it does EVERY time and quickly at that.

Thanks Bro, it's works fine for me, Since I install new software update on my Note 3 the GPS voice guidance stop working, so I was completely shot and this is the same problem I had on my S4 too, but now I just installed MapQuest and its' just works great, No problem at all. I recommend for everyone whoever had same problem so install MapQuest and your Navigation problem will be solve just like that in a minutes. The G.Maps app I put in garbage, I am not using any more....... Thanks!

Since the Lollipop update Google Maps doesn't talk to me in the car, but it does outside the car. Specifically it doesn't talk when it is connected to the car's bluetooth. I'm driving along with the navigator function on and playing music. When I come to a turn the nav wants to tell me about it turns the music down and gives me a couple of seconds of silence, then restores the music.

Here's what I've tried:
1) uninstall the latest versions of Google Maps (back to factory default, no change)
2) Checked the volume controls (all turned up max)
3) Checked the text-to-speech synthesis... well it's working. I noticed the accent changed for S Voice after Lollipop.

It sometimes manages to get an instruction through, or part of it, which makes me think it isn't a volume control issue or a tex-to-speech.

There is another possible reason for voice navigation on a phone not being enabled. In my case, it was because I bought a new vehicle, and then went through the "sync" procedure so that the telephone functions would interface with the car for hands-free calling, etc. However, this car does NOT have any factory navigation system installed. I discovered that the phone's Google Maps navigation had configured itself so that "Play voice over Bluetooth" was in the On position. (This is found under Settings in Maps.) Perhaps the expectation is that the phone's Voice Navigation instructions will override audio from the radio/CD system. If that's the intention, it doesn't work. You get no voice commands at all.
So: I set "Play voice over Bluetooth" to Off, and the telephone's voice navigation operations are now functioning again.
AND: refer to the thread on this forum titled "Google maps Voice Navigation does not work with Bluetooth enabled".

I've experimented some more. It does play nav over bluetooth as long as I'm not playing music at the same time. If I turn off the music it works just fine through the car speakers (my car doesn't have a built in nav system either BTW). With the music on it lowers the music volume to the nav can speak but...nothing. I've decided I've fooled around enough with this though. I have an aux jack on my car and I plug that into the phone earplug. That means it isn't talking through bluetooth at all and it works just fine. The phone thinks it is playing through a wired headset and the nav/music works perfectly. I adjusted the bluetooth connection to the car so it does put calls through that, but not media.
I lose two things. One is the car display that says what song is playing, the other is the ability to switch tracks with the little wheel control near the wiper switch. I don't miss those much.

"Hands Free" means that you using a head set (bluetooth or wired).

It is absolutely amazing the thoughtless responses on here...

Hands free also means you re using the car Bluetooth while driving.
I managed to get a better solution to my problem. In Google Maps I turned off the option to talk through Bluetooth, so the directions come through the phone's own speaker. Media still plays through Bluetooth, and the media volume drops when the nav wants to say something. It doesn't come out through the car speakers, but it is quite audible. So I have removed my aux connection and just have USB for keeping the phone battery topped up.
