google Messages missing "priority" option in Android 13

Using Google Messages before the update to Android 13 a contact could be set to "priority". That is different than Starred in Google Contacts.

Each priority contact had a unique bubble that would pop-up, the bubble would stay visibly separate, and on the notifications bar it would be separate from other messages notifications.

Under Android 13, only the 1st unread message will display on my lock screen. When another message is received, only that 1st unread one flashes up. I can't tell anything about the subsequent messages, much less if they're from a priority contact.

On the notification bar all messages are lumped together under a single notification, the priority bubble is gone.

THANKS!! I thought I had "all conversations" can bubble on. Will give that a try!

I also cannot find where to make people "priority" now, basically add them to the special bubbles list. I can find how to star them, but that's for sound/vibrate not bubbles. Any thoughts on that?

In the system settings, search for "Conversations". Do you see an option for Priority Conversations there?

Nope, only "manage conversations"

within "manage conversations" is another "manage conversations". the 1 person I assigned as priority before the google 13 update is listed there, under the "pinned" heading. It is strange, since in Messages I have 3 people pinned to the top. Under the "other" list is a bunch of random conversations, not even new & it doesn't appear to be searchable.

Where is the Manage Conversations option? in Settings>Notifications? That's where I see the Conversations option on my Pixel 6 Pro.
