I got this reply.

To fix Google's Word of the Day notifications not working, ensure you've enabled them within the Google app's settings and your device's system settings, and check for any "Do Not Disturb" modes or other OS-level restrictions that might be blocking them. If the problem persists, try clearing the Google app cache, restarting your device, or uninstalling and reinstalling the Google app.

Check within the Google App

  1. Open the Google app .
  2. Tap your profile picture or initial: in the top right corner.
  3. Navigate to settings: and then look for notification-related options, such as "Notifications" or "Word of the Day settings".
  4. Ensure that notifications are enabled: for the Word of the Day feature.
Check Your Device's System Settings
  1. Go to your device's main settings: (usually an icon with a gear).
  2. Find the "Apps" or "Notifications" menu .
  3. Locate the Google app: and select it.
  4. Verify that notifications are turned on: for the Google app.
Troubleshoot Further
  • Turn off Do Not Disturb mode:
Your phone's operating system may have a "Do Not Disturb" or "Focus" mode enabled, which can block all or some notifications.

    • On Android, go to Settings > Apps > Google > Storage > Clear cache
  • Restart your device:
A simple restart can often fix temporary software issues.
  • Update the Google app:
Outdated apps can have bugs that affect notifications. Check your device's app store for any available updates.
  • Uninstall and reinstall the Google app:
If none of the above steps work, uninstalling and then reinstalling the Google app can often resolve persistent notification problems

That didnt work

The last one says to uninstall the Google app, since you cannot do that the next best thing would be to clear the data for the app. It will force it go back to default and since it once worked for you this may correct whatever changed. To do that go to Settings>Apps>Google>Force stop>Storage>Clear data. This will affect any settings within the app but will not affect any of your contacts, or anything backed up to your Google account. This is all local to the phone.
