Google Nexus 5 - Bluetooth volume bug

I am using Sony MW1 Smart Bluetooth Stereo Headset for music playback.
I use the device volume to set for playback, keeping the MW1 volume low to reduce battery draw. At low volume on both devices, I can hear just fine.
If I get a notification during playback, the N5 Bluetooth volume jumps to full, blasting out my ears.
