Google Nexus 6 Battery life

Re: Battery life

Even without tapping on it you can see cell stand by at the top of his list using the most battery.
So you're radios aren't off or something dude.

Yep, that's what I wanted to see. So many come here complaining about battery life and the signal is to blame.

I'm in a fringe area when at home, so I force 3G only and that helps. It doesn't constantly switch back and forth.

Re: Battery life

Just do it. Do you want help troubleshooting your battery or not?

I didn't post for troubleshooting. I'm pretty convinced at this point that this phones battery isn't going to be great.

I just posted the screen shot to show others what I'm experiencing.

OK. Hopefully the battery life will get better with an update. I'm kind of disappointed when comparing it to my Note 4, but I haven't really used it long enough to calibrate the battery.

Right. Thanks for providing some info for bothers :)
Now on another note. If you don't provide the whole image for them it tends to mislead the masses ;).

Here are my screenshots for today. Very light usage today as it is Thanksgiving :).

Re: Battery life

The reception is abysmal, which is why the battery dies so fast. The poorer the reception, the more energy the phone redirects to the reception to try and improve it. Newer chips have faster download/upload capabilities, which means they tend to consumer more battery. So, it's a compounding affect for you, yikes!
Turning off cellphone data should help. You're still hampered by the poor reception, however. Some options:
1) Less advanced phone
2) Change providers
3) Get a cell station that provides reception around your house (assuming the location is at home).

You could also get a phone with a smaller screen.

Good luck!

Re: Battery life

One could also change their preferred network from LTE down to 3G and get a little more battery, right? Assuming they don't care or always need the faster data.

Again, the only thing missing was the battery life and the approx time left, from that image.

No one is being mislead

Re: Battery life

If you have iffy signal which seems to be the case, you aren't going to get that great of battery life. No phone can overcome poor signal.

Re: Battery life

All things being equal, I'm assuming (read, hoping) this is an optimization problem that can be fixed with updates. Volta was supposed to beef up standby time, but I'm hearing enough general complaints about battery life from users and reviewers to give me pause.

N5/1+1

Volta isn't an overnight fix, especially since most devs still have not updated their apps to take advantage of it. Once they do that, then you will see better battery life.

Not true. No one knows how your signal was. And people that haven't been using android forever will see your stats and just thing battery life is atrocious. When really your cell signal was atrocious and ate your battery. Which is why you need the image of the graph like I posted. Then it shows when your device was awake. And how good your reception was. How do we know you don't have a rogue app keeping your phone awake? We don't without the info we asked for or wasn't provided. :p
Again just trying to help everyone not condescend you in anyway. That's all.

Edit: also I realize you're not the OP so this entirely isn't directed at you lol. But merely explaining why your reasoning isn't relevant to our issue with asking for more data.

Yeah, that's what I do. When I'm out and not around wi-fi, and need faster speeds, I will switch to 4G.

I remember just a few years ago I was happy I was getting 3g instead of 1x in my area.

I am the original poster, just ended up signing in under a different account for some reason.

Re: Battery life

Let me ask yall something, do you think it's okay that you have to adjust from lte to 3G just to preserve battery?

I think it's a bit silly that for such an expensive device you have to make thee minor tweaks to make your battery last.

Btw the battery life is bad.

Have you done this and gotten nice results on a nexus 6? I've only had the phone a few days and haven't been away from WiFi very much to see for myself.

Re: Battery life

And check your preferred network. I just checked mine and it was set to global for some reason and that's why my signal was orange and red. So I'd you're getting crap signal check to see what network your nexus is defaulted to.

Settings>More>Cellular Networks>preffered
And make sure its on the right one.

I haven't used the phone enough yet to tell. In my house I can have 3g in one room, and 4g in another. So if I force 3g, I'm ok, until I move. then I may drop to 1 bar. That's how it is this time of year. In the Summer I can force 3g and have a strong 3g signal all day, where ever I am.

Re: Battery life

I'm getting a little better battery life than I was with my Note 3. I'm on wifi most of the day at work and at home on the weekends, but still have excellent 4G T-Mobile signal where I live. With my Note 3 I was usually around 30-40% by 9pm and with the Nexus 6 I'm around 40-50% by the same time, and that's usually after a day of emails, test messages, phone calls, several work apps, and a little geocaching and Ingress to and from work.

Re: Battery life

Thus far, I am for the most part satisfied with the Nexus 6's battery life. It isn't phenomenal (as I'd hoped), but it definitely gets the job done.
On the day in these screenshots, I was about to go 17+ hours on a charge, with more than 4 hours of screen time, along with almost 2.5 hours of talk time. All of this while being in a low signal area (65% time without signal).
I had GPS, bluetooth, and wifi all turned on. I also had ambient display (with approx. 40% brightness), always listening (OK Google), and Google Now turned on. Gmail is set to sync 4 different email accounts, with 10-20 emails coming in each hour.
Note: I am running stock, encrypted, no root.
