Google Nexus 6 Its the end of the Nexus brand

Re: Will Verizon Nexus 6 have an unlocked bootloader?

I think Verizon and etc are just selling it similar to what t-mobile and sprint ate doing with the nexus 5 currently

Re: Will Verizon Nexus 6 have an unlocked bootloader?

Did the Galaxy Nexus? I want to be able to flash roms/recoveries as that's a big advantage of a Nexus device.

I'm sure this won't have an encrypted bootloader (all bootloaders are locked). The Galaxy Nexus' bootloader was not encrypted, so it was easy to flash ROMs constantly on that phone.

Re: So its just anothe phone now, not special?

I don't know about better hardware. Motorola have better signal and call quality than even Samsung, and build quality as well, even with that aluminum frame for this Note4 this time.

MicroSD inclusion and removable battery do not constitute better hardware. I see removable battery as a con, and not everyone care for microSD, most regular users don't even use it. It's the techie that care about microSD and removable battery. Finger print scanner and heat rate sensors are useless gimmicks, I do not even want them on a phone.

As for the camera the jury is still out. It's using the Sony Exmor 214 which is used by the best Android phones right now with OIS. Motorola post processing software sucks, but Android L have a new camera API. I don't know how good it is going to be, but it will be at least better than the Moto X.

Also the combination of Android L and stock Android undoubtedly will allow it to have longer battery life than the Note 4 with Touchwiz. There are couple things Note 4 have like the SPen and Touchwiz features, but you have to realize, not everyone want those Samsung things which is why they look to a stock Android device like this.

PS. $699 on Verizon is still on Verizon, which have very pricy plans. Most people who use Nexus prefer unlocked GSM phones and ability to switch carriers freely. These two phones appeal to different type of users.

Part of the reason why Samsung is king is because of the removable battery and SD card support and they help separate Android from Apple. LG has gained marketshare and I think it was smart of them to also offer a removable battery and SD card support for the G3.

Now we agree on everything else. Most Note users barely touch the SPen and few ever use Samsung's apps. Most people get Samsung because of the high end hardware (display and camera) and because of the feature rich interface. Many people like Touchwiz (I don't).

Re: So its just anothe phone now, not special?

There may not be any. I personally view the lack of Moto software on a phone made by Motorola as inexcusable.

This is a Nexus - it is a pure stock Android phone.

If you want Moto Apps
1) Buy a Moto X or wait and buy the Droid Turbo or rumored Moto X Play.
2) Buy the Nexus 6 and wait for a developer to port them over. Root (if required) and install them. A developer will probably be able to port over a Moto X Rom for the Nexus 6 eventually as well.

Verizon has offered phones will unlocked bootloaders before, so it's a possibility for the Nexus 6.

So far, I think you could buy the 1st generation (2013) Moto X Developer Edition with an unlocked bootloader on Verizon. They also had a Droid Maxx Developer Edition, but Verizon stopped selling that in July.

We'll have to wait and see what Verizon and Google actually put up for sale with respect to the Nexus 6.

Yes galaxy nexus had easy to unlock boot loader. And I am sure this will be the same.

Re: Will Verizon Nexus 6 have an unlocked bootloader?

My goal is to buy the Nexus 6 on Verizon on contract while keeping my current unlimited plan (using BestBuy trick). If this works, and if the contract phone has unlocked bootloader, then and only then am I upgrading.

Google Nexus 6 The carriers forced the price

One+ built and sell a high end phone at cost for $300
Google/LG built and sell a high end N5 for $350

I find it impossible to believe that Moto couldn't do that at a much lower price point. $650 has a very healthy profit margin built in, like every other Android flagship. The US carriers much have forced a high price as a condition of carrying this phone, there is no other explanation.

Care to elaborate and save me time on Google? Just called big red to re-evaluate my plan options and not seeing much of a savings if I switch plans so would be nice to keep UL knowing that I will be restarting my crack flash addiction.

Verizon isn't allowed to preactivate phones/sim's shipped to 3rd party sellers like BestBuy/Amazon. So if you upgrade to a new phone at BB, select 'keep my existing plan'. Then when you get the new phone, put your old sim in it before turning it on. This way Verizon thinks you still have your old plan.

You can use the new sim and activate it on a new phone all while keeping your unlimited plan on Verizon. You don't have to be sneaky they don't care. As long as you selected to keep your existing plan when you upgraded online or bb.

Re: Will Verizon Nexus 6 have an unlocked bootloader?

Why does Verizon care? They should unlock for those that want it. It would be 1% of their customers or less..

I will refute this point, or just agree to disagree. Most average joe when they go in a phone store, they are not going to look for removable battery or microsd, they don't even know what microSD is. In fact, most people will buy the cheapest option of the phone with 16gb storage. They definitely want a phone that last them a whole day and that's all it matters to them, not if they can remove it or not. I never ever seen anyone swap their Samsung battery in public in my life.

Also this is a Nexus, we can argue until the end of time, Nexus phones do not get microSD. They will not pay Microsoft royalties for that. They also want people to use their cloud services like Drive and Music.

I'm far from an average user and have had 11 different smart phones of varying OSes in the past 18 months alone. I've been using them in general since 2006 and in all that time I have never, not one time, purchased an extra or extended battery. I haven't used an SD card since I can even remember.

My preferences don't discredit yours or make those things less useful to people that like them, but I hate blanket statements that assume things for everyone. Those things have never been why I purchased a Samsung device and I highly doubt they are for the majority of others either. I've always purchased Samsung phones for the hardware itself and in some cases the features. With the Nexus 6 giving me hardware parity and no bloat on top, I'm strongly considering holding off on the Note 4 I was going to get this Friday.

Fair enough. I know people that really like Samsung phones because of the removable battery and SD card support and won't consider a phone without them.

Now I agree that most people don't care - some buy Samsung Galaxy Phones and iPhones because that is what their friends have.

I am not arguing about the Nexus - they won't have SD cards and that is that. I have a Moto X and I personally don't care about SD card support. I actually don't like SD cards in my phone either (they can get corrupted and screw up the phone and can slow the phone down if the card isn't a high quality one and are also a security risk) - I prefer to just have 32 GB of storage already in the phone.

I think that was one of the negative point with the Moto X, the 32gb version only have 24.4GB of free space. I'm not even sure how stock Android with a few Moto apps take up so much space.

Yeah, that doesn't make sense to me. I am curious to see how much space is on the 32 GB Nexus. I am still going to buy the pure edition Moto X (I might wait for the X Play) though. 24 GB is enough for me.

Re: So its just anothe phone now, not special?

I don't think the size would kill me 1" bigger than my n5 but if I'm to get a new phone this year it will be the moto x.. Closer to my preferred size.. And costs less.. Yes the n6 is a big moto x with better specs but really how fast of a phone do I need my n5 handles anything flawlessly

Re: So its just anothe phone now, not special?

But at that price I would rather pay a little more to get a superior camera, features and s-pen. Don't get me wrong I really wanted this phone, but after the reveal I am unimpressed.

Besides the S-pen, (camera has too many unknowns to include it as a reason) what features does the Note 4 have over the Nexus 6? I am very curious on what you were expecting since you were unimpressed with the real.
