Re: T-mobile has them on the floor
This is without a doubt a specialty device... Hard to say who the target market is.. I work with a small petite woman who wields her Note 3 like it's nothing... She loves it and says she'd never go back... I got to play with one at my local T-Mobile store on Friday for about 30 - 40 minutes... I actually thought it felt a lot smaller in the hand that I thought it would.. Could tell that it was top heavy but considering it tapers off as you move down the device that would seem to be the case.. I found my index fighter pretty much hit that little dimple perfectly and that might be part of the balancing act... I got this Diztronic case in the mail today and it says it has lay flat technology... The back of the case is a lot flatter than the actual phone and I think the case is designed so that the phone doesn't rock back and forth and spin like a top, but the it might take away from that comfortable feeling the phone is designed to have in the hand.. If you go without a case of any kind I agree that could be an issue... but for me I am not a mess with my phone why it's laying down.. I always pick it up.. I was only able to compare brightness vs my Nexus 5... both were set to auto brightness and I never even though to hit the slider and put either at max brightness.. I did think the Nexus 6 was just a hair "Darker" but they were pretty close to the same level...
Mine should be here by Wednesday... I've just been toying with the case in my hand and she's going to be big... but that is the point.. just a few hair wider and taller than the Note 4 so if your comfortable with that device you should be pretty comfortable with this one minus the home button and extra bezel... and I loved the G3 screen.... I didn't toy with the camera as I was in the store so what are you really going to picture? I want to test the camera out in the wild where I would normally take pictures but most of the test images seem to show it's got a decent shooter strapped on the back.. Camera isn't top 5 for me... I have a digital SLR when I know I am going to be taking "Important" pictures.. but you at least want your pictures to be decent and speed is probably more important with my 11 and 9 year old racing around doing different things....
I'll probably keep my Nexus 5 for at least a month just in case.... I don't think the size is going to be an issue but with Lollipop on the Nexus 5 it will feel like a new device and not like it's old.... I doubt I'll go back down once I have all that extra real estate to play with..
So I had a chance to play with it. This device it WIDE. I don't think anyone quite knows why Google chose this size, but it's a device that will tire your hand. It seemed a bit awkward and top heavy with the upper half thicker than the lower half. The curved back helps it feel good in the hand, but this is a two handed device for 98% of people. If you're one to lay your phone down one a desk and interact with it, forgettaboutit. This thing spins like a top and wobbles like a dreidel. The screen is ok. If you don't hold it up to another phone. It's dim and very warm. Even the T-Mobile associate was shocked when we loaded chrome side by side on the nexus and my 6+. The nexus was 100% with auto off and my 6+ was at 75% and it couldn't hold a candle to it. If anyone disliked the G3 for its screen, don't even bother with the 6. The camera is much improved so I think everyone will really be happy with it for the most part. Let's be honest, people don't buy Nexus devices for the camera but this one is good. Unfortunately I think the average consumer won't make it past the size to find that out.
