Google Nexus 6 on T-Mobile

Re: My First Day Impressions

I second everything Robbie317 said above. It is HUGE!

But, when I went back to the N5, it felt small. It reminded me of the difference between the N5 and the iPhone 4.

One handed use is difficult for those of us with smaller hands but since I've returned to Nova (yes, I lasted less than 24 hours with GEL), I've set a gesture so I can swipe down anywhere on the screen and the notification shade comes down. It's something Google might have considered to make one handed use easier but it's an easy workaround with Nova.

With smaller hands, it is difficult to hold one handed with the slippery back. I've nearly had it slip out of my hand several times now and that has caused numerous heart palpitations.

Otherwise, I love it! The display is beautiful, the speakers are amazing (for a phone) and it's blazing fast.

Now, what to do with my N5 and OPO...

Re: My First Day Impressions

I'm hearing a lot of good first impressions and can't wait to get my phone, it's out for delivery now. The one thing I was wondering about is how Google voice works. On my OPO GV works well, and my voicemails are integrated into the call log. I haven't used stock Android since I had my Nexus 5, and I'm not sure if it's a stock Android thing or CyanogenMod. I'm hoping it works like this in Lollipop.

I need to install Google voice again..... When I moved to T-Mobile I removed it... Sprint actually advertised it and it worked better on their network vs when I made the move to T-Mobile.... but I really liked it when I did use it.... isn't it baked into hangouts now though? I'll need to research more...

Re: My First Day Impressions

Ambient display.... I like it.. It's neat to hear my phone beep and just glance over and I know what it is and then the screen goes back dark or I just double click to read the email/text/whatever....

Thanks for the great writeup Robbie. Quick ? about Ambient Display. So, unlike Moto X, whatever the notification is that comes up, it lights up dimly and vibrates once? Does the notification/vibration ever happen again, or no, only once? Just wondering how many times I might miss something after 1 shot? I'd hate to install 3rd party app like Dynamic Notifications, as I did on my Nexus 4. But not sure it or any 3rd party app like this would work on Nexus 6 and confuse Ambient Display? Hmmm...

I'm not sure GV works on a prepaid account, at least not the way I use it. You can't use call-forwarding. It's the one thing holding me back from going prepaid all the way. You have a choice whether or not to integrate it into Hangouts.

Never owned a Moto X but yes it beeps and vibrates and just a black and white clock and notification lights up.. if you touch the screen it goes to all color and the entire screen wakes up.. If not it goes back to "Sleep" in just a couple of seconds.. I don't think you get a notification again... If you don't answer/clear that notification and another one comes in the original one shows up with the new notification... So I'd think you only have one shot at it... if you leave your phone and run to the restroom or to grab something and you miss it you miss it until something else comes in... I have a habit of anytime I leave my desk and my phone on my desk when I sit back down I check it real quick.. Which works out with the pick it up and it does the same thing as when the notification comes in... if you don't have a notification only the clock part lights up.(when you pick the phone up)

That is probably it... Prepaid.... Hard to get away from this $30 T-Mobile prepaid plan though.... not that an extra $50 a month would be a big deal but I don't like spending anything I don't have to......

Re: My First Day Impressions

This is good. I like hearing everybody else's first impression.

Re: My First Day Impressions

Haha sucks for me. No stores in colorado have the phone. Tmo

i know...the t mob store i visited told me they were the only one in the denver metro to actually have a live demo up and running (not sure if that is correct). rep said they did not have any to sell but the store took orders only. she then said inventory sold out online early and they could not take anymore orders.

I'm with at&t and just wanted to hold one in person. I have one on order through Motorola which is scheduled for a 12/2 delivery.

I didn't play w it too extensively but it was very nice. btw...NO t moble branding on the back. so props to t mobile for that.

Re: Got A Nexus at Tmobile

This phone is beautiful. Lucky for me two stores within a 5 mile radius had them in stock. So big and beautiful... I got a Spigen thin case, but it looks like I will need more protection. I am afraid that I may drop it.

Did they have any cases at all or did you get your case online?

Re: My First Day Impressions

Funny you say that, because after playing with it yesterday at the T-Mobile store, I thought it felt smaller than I imagined, perfect actually, and ordered one immediately.

Glad you liked it. I love the nexus line but I think the nexus 6 might too big. It's so hard to get a feel for these devices when they're so heavily locked down to the tables.

Re: Got it

Sign up then cancel once you have the phone. They can't force you to return the phone. They simply make you pay for the phone.

Thanks, I thought about doing that but seemed like a hassle. I have one coming from moto but I don't think I cancel it.

Got mine, and it feels fine, especially because of the dimple.

Re: My First Day Impressions

As far as my battery life it has to be the signal strength at work.. Which was always a problem.. when I was on Sprint their signal was nonexistent at my work and when I switched to T-Mobile which was a much better but still weak signal my battery life improved dramatically..... in the 4 hours I was at work prior to lunch my batter dropped from 99% when I left home to 67% with 28 minutes of screen on time.... I got to lunch in a very populated and very strong T-Mobile signal area... I get back to work and my batter only dropped from 67% to 63% but my screen on time went from 28 minutes to 1 hour 19 minutes... So I have a feeling the somewhat faster battery drain while at work is just due to weak signal and the phone is searching and trying to keep signal....

Re: Got it

Walked into local T-Mobile store this morning and picked one up. Put my Att card in and now enjoying it. I feel bad for those here that spend a lot of time ordering online and then not even getting it earlier than me. Though I was one of the first people to try ordering the day play store claimed to have it.

First impression is that its big. Definitely found the moto x more comfortable. But the nexus 6 still fits comfortably in my pocket, will be better for reading a lot because of the bigger screen, has wireless charging, a barometer, slightly brighter screen, and better camera (indoor shots look less noisy, but it may be different processing on the moto x built in app, i.e. less noise smoothing.

Let me know if you have any questions.

My question is.. does it have a bunch of T-Mobile apps on there? Would that be the only difference between buying from them and buying from Moto or Google play directly??

Yeah, I looked at your screen shot and saw that. Relieved to hear it drains so much more slowly when you have a better signal, because the drain you had during your first 4 hours was, at minimum, depressing.

It's funny before I went to lunch my phone was giving me an estimated drop dead time of around 10 pm and after an hour at lunch in a better signal area it's now got an estimated drop dead time of 1 am tomorrow morning.... I am sure with another 4 hours at work that will change until I leave go home and latch onto my WiFi and then it will change again... Will just have to make mental notes and average it out.. Saturday will be a better idea as I'll be on the go and using it more....
