And this is why I'm getting this phone through T-mobile.

Re: WiFi Calling on T-Mobile

If it's a T-Mobile update they should be able to push it out to any imei that is associated with a nexus 6 in their billing system regardless of where it was originally sourced. If it's a Google ota, moot point.

Re: WiFi Calling on T-Mobile

Why not simply use the new Hangouts dialer? Calls will originate with your Google voice number and will work with just WiFi.

Unless you give people that GV number as a second number, you won't be able to receive calls, and people won't recognize your incoming calls as coming from you.

Good luck getting one without T-Mobile postpaid service. They won't sell it to you.

Yes we will. The price of the phone is higher without service though. Typically they tell you they can't to save it for customers cause reps make nothing on selling you a device.

Are you saying that T-Mobile will be selling it without any associated service for above the $649/699 retail pricing?

All our phones come with a price of with and without service. Minimum plan to get the plan pricing is the $35 pre paid service.

The 32GB model may be possible since those will be sold in the stores, but it would appear the 64GB phone (not available in stores) would not since T-Mobile doesn't support website sales of phones without an associated account.

Unless, you're like me, and have been giving people your GV # for years as your primary number. (As you should.)

In talking about in store. We have pricing for the phones with and without service. Pricing sheets for next week have not been posted for us yet though.

So, all T-Mobile phones that are sold in stores come with a price of with and without service. A noteworthy distinction for those who might have been planning on getting a T-Mobile 64GB model to use elsewhere (might still be feasible, but would require the investment in a month's service and (?) an activation fee.

Why should you? It wouldn't help if I was in a bad signal area.. Had no data but had a phone signal.

Most haven't been doing this so wifi calling through T-Mobile is useful.. Get home, hop on wifi, it utilizes that for text and calls.

That doesn't really bother me, I'm not that attached to people and have always used the option of voicemail notifications via text.

I'm almost never without data, whether Wi-Fi or mobile, but if I don't have data and a call came in that was important, a voicemail notification via text (which doesn't need data) would let me know (provided they left a voicemail. And, if a call was important, they should leave a voicemail...)

At that point, I could either find data to listen to the voicemail OR I could call my Google Voice number manually with my phone to check the voicemail or make a call using the menu presented to me when dialing my Google Voice number. Really not a big issue.

Umm...that doesn't work for everybody. I use my GV number for work. My office phone calls are also sent to my GV number and my GV number is the number I give out for work-related things. I receive a ton of calls during the day, so I have my GV number set to turn off at the end of my work day so that I'm not disturbed in the evening with work-related things. Friends and family have my actual cell number so they can contact me whenever they want. I look forward to the Wifi calling update because simply using hangouts dialer isn't enough for me.

The question would be how much of a difference between with or without service? I am actually on T-Mobile and have been for the last 8 or 9 months but you are saying you must be on a minimum plan of $35... I am using the $30 100 minute, unlimited data and text prepaid plan from Walmart ever since I went out of contract and brought my Nexus 5 over....

I know that plan isn't readily shown on the website and you pretty much have to buy the starter kit from Walmart to get it.... BUT I've saved almost $50 a month being on that plan vs what I paid with Sprint.. Even with my corporate discount... Oh well.. I'll find out on November 12th I guess.... ;)

Ah, I see. I wouldn't ever use my GV number for work unless work assigned me a special GV number. I have two separate phones, though, one for work (IP6+) and one for personal (soon to be N6)... so that's why my solution works for me.

I used to use one phone for both work and personal, back in the day, but opted for my own personal phone separately due to the fact that your work phone (and personal data if you are using the same phone for work) becomes discoverable during legal holds/issues and since I work a government job, that's more likely than most, and I wouldn't want them combing through my personal emails, texts, website history, call logs, etc
