Google Nexus 6 on Verizon

The nexus 6 works perfectly fine on Verizon. I just got the 64gig one. I had a Samsung Galaxy S4 so my sim card wouldn't work since it needs a nano and S4 is a micro. I had a broken Moto X that took to store and asked to activate and took the new sim card and put it in the nexus 6 and works perfect.

The rep I chatted with before Chloe explicitly said that no, if you pay full price the discount doesn't apply. It makes no sense to me either, I agree with you.

Maybe their computer system cannot handle applying the discount to the same sales ticket that includes the phone?

Even if it's true, just buy the phone, walk away, come back and establish service. Voila, you qualify, because "you brought your own phone"......

She was wrong and your instincts are correct. The $25 (called a "Month to Month") discount is open to anyone on a More Everything plan that is out of contract and has a data plan of 10 GB or higher.

It's $15 if the data plan is less than 10 and $10 total if the line of service is for a BASIC phone.

If you buy a device through Verizon at full retail, you'll still be out of contract.

Just go into your My Verizon account under "FEATURES" and add the Month to Month $25 discount to your account.

For those that are currently using this phone on Verizon, I am curious to know if the system will recognize that a person is out of contract and apply the $25 discount, since the Nexus 6 shows up as a NON-VZW Device.

I know someone said they called in and were able to get the credit manually applied, but that's a pain. Hopefully, these issues will be resolved when Verizon officially releases the phone.

Also, Verizon's 4G phones are factory unlocked out of the box, so a Verizon Nexus 6, may come with pre-installed bloatware, but it should still be able to recognize sims from other carriers. TMO and Sprint are still the best to buy from, but a VZW Nexus 6 will still have more flexibility, out of the box, than AT&T.

I know some are unable to root, due to work policies or personal preference, but any bloatware won't be a problem to remove if you don't mind unlocking the bootloader and rooting, though rooting does make future updates a little more time consuming.

The phone is capable. VZW needs to update their part of the phone's software. It's not a system wide release, but unique for each phone. Several of their phones have been updated and have this feature activated.

Search their web-site for "Advanced Calling". It describes the feature, and the release procedure. They do not have a schedule for each phone though.

I hope it's released because a good portion of my battery is eaten up everyday by cell standby. I can only assume with a release comes an update that provides better cell coverage.

I am no expert, simply a technophile, but, I thought that I had read that one of the new features in Lollipop is that it is built with a separate partition/directory for loading carrier bloat. Previous versions on Android allowed carriers to install their bloatware in the "root" folder/ directory, for lack of a better term, preventing removal without root and superuser access to the the root directory. Lollipop allows the carriers to install bloat on an unlocked folder/directory ( outside of the root directory) so you should be able to remove it once installed, without Root. It is my understanding that if Verizon carries the phone and updates software you should be able to remove each application they push without Root as long as you have a unlocked N6 built before the launch. Verizon will not have had the opportunity to put their software in the root folder. Can anyone confirm or deny?

Keep this in mind:

Android OTA's are sent by IMEI. If you aren't using an IMEI in Verizon's range (you would have to have purchased the device from Verizon), you're not going to get a Verizon software update like you're describing.

So even when (or better said IF) Verizon releases the N6, our device will always be read by them as a Non-VZW device, therefore all updates are purely at the discretion of Google/Moto? You mean, we will be like MOST of the rest of the world and not at the mercy of Verizon when it comes to updates? I have to say, that makes me VERY happy.

Wait. I'm confused. You're saying that your N6 that you bought from Motorola.com came unlocked. You went to Recovery, came back and bloat from Verizon had appeared? I can't imagine how that is possible. Did you download an update or something?

I've bought two N6's from Motorola.com, neither have any VZW bloat on them even after popping in my SIM and connecting to VZW.

Now, now, let's not be TOO cynical.

Fact is, a VZW release is moot. You can buy it anywhere else at retail and use it, and there is no disadvantage whatsoever:

The Moto/GP/TM etc phones work perfectly on VZW.

Price is a non-issue as well. You won't get a contract discount at VZW unless your contract is up. If it isn't, the phone will cost the same there as it does elsewhere. If you are able to take a discount/upgrade, your contract is over. Stay off contract, purchase the phone via Moto credit, take the off-contract $25 monthly service discount, and you will SAVE money on the phone at the end of 2 years. If you can't afford the up-front retail price in order to do that, purchasing with interest free Moto credit spreads the cost over up to 18 months.
