Google Nexus 6 on Verizon

Do not sign up for a new 2 year agreement and bring your own device. It can be the one that just came off contract, or a new one bought at full price from VZW or elsewhere You also need to be signed up for a 10gb plan.

Then, and this is VZW doin' it's thing:

You have to explicitly ask for the discount. It is not automatic.
Does it have to be the 10 GB plan, or 10 and above? I am on the 30 GB plan.

That is what I am doing, I am saving money in the long run. Honestly, anyone will save money using the edge program even if you are buying the phone gradually month per month. The catch is, you have to be tempted to switch phones after 1 year.

The other catch is that it requires a contract.

And, you can get the phone immediately at Motorola. With their financing, the cost per month will be comparable. It's a win-win-win: You'll have the phone, save the money, and be off contract.......

Also, yeah, it's 10gb or above that qualifies for the discount.

Yes, that is true, but just saying this about any phone. IPhone, note 4, whatever. It ends up being cheaper.

Wellllll, sure, but we're talking about the Nexus 6, which is not available as of today on VZW. I'm suggesting this as a strategy to get the phone earlier than you might via the carrier.

True enough! I saved money by buying their moto care as well! Cheaper than asurian insurance

Yeah, about half the money. Just over $5 a month, vs $10 at VZW. I'm not sure, but think Moto has no deductible. Asurion is at least $100.

I went with Moto Care too, the deductible is $39/ incident which is way cheaper than asssurion.

I just did a web chat with a rep on Verizon's site and the rep I spoke to without a doubt said that it would be released on the 26th of February. I asked for pricing which she said she didn't have any or any information on pre-orders either.

Get it from Motorola with interest free 18 month financing. If you are off contract with VZW, and you should be if you're upgrading your phone, you will than get a $25 discount per month on your service. At the end of 2 years, you'll save $600 on your service, and in the end the phone will cost you $100. The Moto payment will be higher because you will have paid in full in a shorter period of time than you would on Edge.

Can I get some more info on this discount? Do you have a link to something from Verizon that details what it's for and how you're eligible?

I'm currently grandfathered in to unlimited data but may end up having to add another line at which point they're going to force me to give up my unlimited data and $25 off a month would really help take the sting out of that. Also, I can imagine that most people I talk to at verizon aren't going to give me $25 off a month just because I read something about it on a forum but don't know the specifics and can't point them to something from their company about it.

Here's a chat I just had with their sales team. The discount is $25/month. The service is $15/month (my typo may cause some confusion) :

Note that you do NOT qualify for the discount if you purchase a phone from them at full price, from an earlier chat I had. Which makes no sense. If that's true, I'd just buy the phone with no service, then come back to establish the new line (that way, I'm bringing my own device.....).

This issue has come up numerous times over the past months. Since many of us are purchasing the phone from Google and Moto, a lot of us should qualify for the discount. Maybe it's worth a sticky? Do I ask the moderators, or post it as a stand alone thread and hope they pick it up.

Chloe clearly said you get the discount when you bring your own phone. You don't think buying a full price phone from them is the same thing? It seems to me that was the whole intent of the discount.

The rep I chatted with before Chloe explicitly said that no, if you pay full price the discount doesn't apply. It makes no sense to me either, I agree with you.

Maybe their computer system cannot handle applying the discount to the same sales ticket that includes the phone?

Even if it's true, just buy the phone, walk away, come back and establish service. Voila, you qualify, because "you brought your own phone"......

Just went through this yesterday. I have 10 phones on a 15 gig plan. 6 of the phones were off of contract. I was able to get $150 a month off. He even gave me a credit off of last months bill. You will have to ask for this or they will not do it on their own. I asked if one phone needed to be on a contract. He said no. All 10 could be off contract. He said it didn't matter if it was bought from Verizon , ebay craiglist etc. Just need a 10 gig plan or higher.
