re: Google Nexus 6 Preorder Info & Reviews

If Google needs to make a deal with carriers fine. But don't make the Play Store pre-order a farce and tick off your most loyal customers. Come right out and tell your customers beforehand that supply will be extremely limited. Like 2 seconds limited. The pre-order was a farce and they should not have even done it. Sell 1,000 phones and tick off 1,000,000 loyal ardent fans/customers. They should know better. These are the smartest people in the world. The outcome was obvious. Pre-order did more harm than good. Why bother? It only generated animosity because a debacle of this level by people this smart had to be premeditated.

Time to take a break from Nexus 6

I've been following Nexus 6 news every day for months, like many people I'd imagine. Reading this site and others religiously, posting on forums. Reading about L, rumors, everything. First it was waiting for the announcement on Oct 15, then the slow trickling of Google news, Inbox invites, the L feature spotlights on AndroidPolice etc.

Then the pre-order date started coming nearer. And we still had no news about carriers, availability, reviews. But I thought we'd know on Oct 29. Now its come and gone, Google royally screwed the launch, at this point I even have to question if its intentional. Nothing gets 'sold out' in 10s, that's how long the pre-order site worked. It's still not there for pre-order, which is a joke.

I'm going to take a break, its just a phone. If and when there's actual news, it'll show up, but I'm done looking for updates every day. If this was any other device and it was handled this poorly, I'd probably refuse to buy it.

Re: Time to take a break from Nexus 6

It's not exactly the same thing, but every time Jordan sneakers get released, they sell out within seconds. Sometimes Nike.com crashes, sometimes the cart messes up. Either way, you're very lucky to be able to purchase a pair, and it seems like there's no possible way they didn't have enough to just "sell out". Which is exactly the case here.

And Jordan Brand does this week after week. It's no accident. I would assume the same with Google.

Re: Just a theory about the pre-order

I see a lot of praise for TMobile on here. I've heard awful things about Sprint, but never hear much on the TM front. My contact is up with ATT so I've got some freedom.

Other than the 5gb/100min/$30 plan, what other options are there? I work at a factory and listen to radio/live streams a lot, so 5 gb would be cutting it close. Also weary of even being able to do that on a TM network if the coverage is lacking.

Re: Nexus 6 sells out in seconds... Not a single blog post from any reputable android site...

Id like to agree with that, but it just seems weird that blogs didnt even say Update: Nexus sells out in seconds Or "Bad Nexus Launch...Again". I mean thats what these news sites are here for right? To deliver news. No matter how redundant it is. Apple sites are continuously redundant saying how fast iPhones sell out and any other piece of information that repeats itself.

Seemed odd to me as well to be honest. A bungled launch of a company's flagship device seems to warrant a mention in my humble opinion, even if it is a repeat of previous years disasters.

Lets talk real shipping times

Okay i really don't think my nexus 6 i pre order is going to ship the 21 of November. A lot of confirmation already came out that T-Mobile will be releasing it on the 12th.If it does turn out to be true that Shipping times are on the 21st then Google is doing everything in the book wrong. The pre order customers should get it before T-Mobile get it in mu opinion. So what do you guys think the real shipping times are?

Re: Lets talk real shipping times

Probably a few days before TMO gets theirs. I'm sure we all didn't go through that headache only to get ours late.

Re: Nexus 6 sells out in seconds... Not a single blog post from any reputable android site...

Didn't make enough and had to have supply for the carriers as well this time.

Re: Nexus 6 sells out in seconds... Not a single blog post from any reputable android site...

Android sites aren't going to talk negatively about Android or Android's Nexus release as it would get their readers angry. Angry readers means less website hits. Less website hits means less revenue.

Fact of the matter is that this was the most pathetic release we've seen yet from Google. Absolutely horrible. Would be nice for android sites to recognise it and to at least make some sort of comment about it.

I can't imagine tech website editors are just cool with how Google has handled the Nexus 6 launch, but they probably have their review units to play with, so they probably don't give a crap.

a little more tricky with the Nexus 6 and the $649 price... Last year I was just lucky to be almost out of contract when the Nexus 5 came out... I was already looking at possibly a Note 3 under contract at $300 so $399 to buy the Nexus 5 outright wasn't a big deal at all.... I was iffy about T-Mobile so I got the $30 unlimited(5 gig LTE) 100 minute plan and threw the sim card in the Nexus 5 (I was on Sprint for a long long time) and did a one month test run with T-Mobile and in all the places I went T-Mobile was head and shoulders above Sprint...... to pay $700+ after taxes on the Nexus 6 to do a trial run on T-Mobile like that would be pricey...

the next step up with them is the $50 unlimited talk, text and data (only 1 gig at LTE speeds) but they have that music freedom and depending on who you use for streaming (They have a list on their site) music streaming does not count towards your gig of LTE.... $60 get you 3 gig of LTE, $70 gets you 5 and $80 gets you unlimited..... but on all those plans they have the music freedom so just depends on your data usage outside of your streaming music...

Re: Just a theory about the pre-order

Well I mostly use ESPN Radio or the local AM stations broadcasting certain sporting events.

Why does the $30 get you 5gb and the $50 get you 1gb? Is the unlimited talk really that much of a difference?

The only difference is the talk.. for $30 you only get 100 minutes of talk.. but 5 gig of data.... AND they don't advertise the plan on their website.. You actually have to go to a Walmart and pick up the starter kit to get on the $30 plan.... I found out about it when the Nexus 5 was coming out from people on these forums and used it to try T-Mobile.. Then found out over time I only average 60 - 80 minutes of actual talk a month... I burn through my 5 gig of LTE data... and once you go over and they throttle you back (Usually for a few days for me each month) they SERIOUSLY throttle you back.... I wouldn't even call it 3G.. Don't know what it is when you hit your LTE cap... But it's SLOW!!!!

and the $50 and up plans have the music freedom... so music streaming doesn't count towards your cap... You don't get that with the $30 plan......

Re: Nexus 6 sells out in seconds... Not a single blog post from any reputable android site...

I couldn't find any information on the pre-order date on 10/29; which as many people have stated is very weird. I was scouring the front page here only to find nothing, same with droid-life...etc. Very weird indeed....

+10000... I mean, c'mon. Totally cluster F and really served no purpose this preorder crap. Zero gain from it. Wow like 20 people got to get your phone! YEA. But you pissed off millions in doing so AND were WILLING to pay $649+ for your phone rather than letting people subsidize it. LMAO & smfh.
Maybe people WANT to pay un-subsidized price and NOT want to buy from carriers? Ever think of that Google?
If your not going to offer a mass quantity for your consumers to buy from the PS, then DON'T offer it on PS and only thru carriers.

re: Google Nexus 6 Preorder Info & Reviews

But you pissed off millions

I don't know about millions.... but they did agitate their hardcore and most vocal fans base.... at 6 inches and $650 - 700 pricing and it was for US based purchases only..... I can't imagine millions were sitting at their computer with credit card in hand, heck do you even think a million people are aware of this device like we do???... I think this phone will sell well at the carrier level.... $199 on contract or with 0% financing with carriers over 24 months....

Anyway... Besides the point..... I can't imagine they made more than a few thousand available for "Preorder" I'd much rather pay $649 or 699 from the play store than from a carrier...... Looking at several different forums and articles I wouldn't be surprised if they only sold maybe 10,000 total on October 29 on preorder.... Just insane....

I agree with you a trillion times over man. But the sad reality is that a monolith such as Google doesn't give a rat's burp in a windstorm how it treats its customers. At the end of the day, the other sad reality is that all of the irate Android users will continue to use Google's apps and services thus continuing to fuel Google's unapologetic and apathetic ways. We reap what we sow.

Re: Lets talk real shipping times

In my Play order history my Nexus 6 order went from "Leaves warehouse in 3-4 weeks" yesterday to "Leaves warehouse in 2-3 weeks" today. Sadly when you click on the detailed view it still says estimated date of 11/21 so the change might just be a function of the fact that we're exactly 3 weeks from 11/21 now.

agreed. but it's hubris and arrogance that ultimately kills successful companies - see Nokia, BB, etc. Google at least continues to produce world class bleeding edge products and services. if they drop the ball i guess it's better for them to do it with retail distribution vs. technological innovation and services.
