Re: Nexus 6 available from TMobile November 12th

on my 16GB Nexus 5 i've still got 10.22GB available - so again i'll just roll that extra $50 into my next Nexus purchase. mental accounting based on general principle. i hate waste.

HD movies are only about 1GB each and i only own the 4 classics - i stream via Chromecast but even if i download all 4 of them to my phone i'd still have plenty of space. i have almost 3,000 contacts, a full calendar, but my music is streamed via Pandora and my Documents are on my PC and in the Cloud on Dropbox. and i'm not a Gamer.

I am the same way.... I could get away with 16 gig... I just looked at my 32 gig Nexus 5 and I still have 18 gig free.... I have not purchased an actual DVD or Blu-ray in a long time... I purchasing all my movies via the play store now and just stream them via either Chromecast or one of the two Original Sony Google TV's or the Sony Google TV Blu-Ray player (I am holding out buying a new TV to see what Google does next year with Google TV... I don't really want the Nexus player.. I kind of want it built into a 4K TV if I am going to upgrade)....... I take a lot of pictures but have it set to sync with my PC when I get home and I am on WiFi so I don't really keep a lot of movies or pictures on my phone....

Also why I sold my Nexus 7 and will sell my Nexus 5 when the Nexus 6 is released.. with all the streaming via Chromecast or Google TV I just wasn't using my tablet hardly at all.... Just stream from my phone to the TV and set it down... or surf the internet from the phone so I'd just rather have a Phablet and keep up with ONE device...

What time did the n9 go live? Wasn't it either 8am PST or 11am PST?

Yeah but I have to be at work soon and our work computers suck with Internet. Hopefully I can pre-order it on my Note 4

Isn't that ironic, pre-ordering the Nexus 6 on my Note 4, which I plan on returning tomorrow? 😀

what about keeping the Nexus 5 as a backup phone? that's probably what i'm going to do.

Re: Google Nexus 6 Canadians may not be able to pre-order on the 29th?

I remember it not being available to Canada on the google play store until a few weeks after the US launch

That is exactly what I am doing. Using my N5 as my backup to the N6. The N5 will be getting Lollipop before any other phones so it makes the ideal backup for me...

Lucky for me our internet at work is blazing fast.... I've been here for 2 1/2 hours refreshing....

If you order it from a Note 4 you are going to return that would be awesome... I was going to get a Note 4 until the rumors of the Nexus 6 started leaking out as Shamu and Phablet size.... Decided to hold off and go into a holding pattern... STILL HOLDING!!!

I plan to keep the Nexus 5 as a back up for a couple of weeks at most.... I've been very VERY lucky with Smart phones (Knocking on wood and ordering rabbits foot now) I've never had insurance on one and I've never dropped and busted one (dropped a couple of times but walked away without damage so far)

I am 99.999999999999% certain this is exactly what I had been looking for..... the last time around I kept my GS3 for almost 5 months as a back up and it just sat in a drawer collecting dust and losing what little value it had......

part of me thinks i should sell the Nexus 5 16GB and roll the money into my Nexus 6 purchase rather than just let it sit unused and depreciate and collect dust. again - mental accounting. i think i could get about $150 for it - i have a TPU case, box, charger, and it's in great shape. let someone else get use out of it and enjoy it. if i need a new emergency phone i could always order a new Nexus and just use a cheap A&T GoPhone for a few days until it arrives then return it for a refund.

thoughts?

This is the time I hate, waiting and wondering when it will show up available for pre order.

I sold my Nexus 7 on Swappa for $125....... Looks like 16 gig Nexus 5's are going for about $200 - 280.... 32 Gig $250 - 325......

All along I was going to sell my Nexus 5 to upgrade to a Nexus 6 until they said it was six inches and then I decided to sell both and roll the money into the new device.... if I get $250 for my Nexus 5 and I already got $125 for my Nexus 7.... That is $375 towards the Nexus 6..... Helps absorb some of the cost at least.... Still going to cost me $350 out of pocket after taxes and shipping... but that isn't bad at all..... The Nexus 5 is still a very popular device specially to all those who don't want the Phablet device...

Only reason I am going to keep it a couple of weeks is because of the size.. again 99% sure I'll be happy with it.. I was able to use my Nexus 7 one handed most of the time and this will be a lot smaller....

Re: Nexus 6 available from TMobile November 12th

and in the event something went horribly wrong with my Nexus 6 I'd probably swing by Best Buy and get a 2014 Moto G to hold me over... they are only $189 outright and pretty darn good hardware/software (at least from all the reviews I've read)

That all depends on the compression. There's a big and noticeable difference in the quality (video noise, motion artifacts, etc) between a movie crunched down to 1GB vs one brought down to 3-3.5GB (what I usually go with). Also, if you plan on throwing 1440P videos on, those will be substantially larger. Of course, you mostly stream, so that may not be an issue for you. For me, this will be replacing my N7 as well, so it'll hold more video media content while I'm travelling.

My main thought was for media capture. Images at 13MP are a lot larger than at 8MB, and 4K video larger than 1080P. I took a week's vacation this past summer with my N5 (32GB) serving as my camera, and by the end of the week was a bit short on space. On the plus side, most of the content had mirrored to the cloud by then from the time I'd been on WiFi, but I can see the benefit of more internal storage (and yeah, in advance of the inevitable response "that's why u needz microsd card!!1!eleven!!," I would prefer it, but not at the expense of all of the other benefits inherent to a Nexus device).

I debated keeping it around till I remembered how I kept my Nexus 4 around as a backup and probably lost a lot of its potential resale value without ever once using it, until I loaned it to a friend who'd lost their phone in a cab, and that friend managed to lose my N4 two days later >.<. Definitely going to look to sell my N5 and N7.

I sold my nexus 5 on amazon for 300 and got 270 out of the deal. Definitely sell!

The carrier reps are generally clueless. On a side note, just from the forums alone you can tell there is a lot less hype about the nexus 6. I think the price is going to keep a lot of people away.
