Google Nexus 6P GPS Accuracy

Is anybody else using their phone to track their distance exercise? I use Endomondo and when I use it on my runs, it seems to track distance fine...but on both of the long bike rides that I've done since getting the phone, the GPS seems to drop somewhere along my route and only reconnects at the very end, drawing a straight line from when it dropped to my house.

Is anybody else noticing anything like this? My haven't had GPS issues on a phone since back to my Nexus 5.

Google Nexus 6P Inaccurate GPS?

Tried to use navigation on 2 or 3 separate occasions but the turn by turn navigation is giving me incorrect directions. it's detecting a parallel street next to the freeway.

I am going to keep testing but anyone else getting the same problem?

Re: Inaccurate GPS?

Normally GPS is pretty accurate. Run GPS Status & Toolbox and look at the HDOP number. The lower, the better the accuracy. If it's high, it could be your location. (Driving in skyscraper canyons or thick forests, GPS doesn't work too well, because the signal timing is messed up by reflection in the first case or absorption in the second.)

It could be the phone, it could be an area with no GPS signal (like an area with trees with a thick leaf canopy), it could be an area with a lot of interference.

Run GPS Status & Toolbox and see what the GPS is doing when you drop the GPS. (You'll see which satellites it's hearing, and the relative signal strengths.)

I have the same issue. Just upgraded from Nexus 5 to Nexus 6P and now my Google's Location history is all over the place and does not update accurate locations frequently.

On my Nexus 5 I could walk a 10km trip and Google's Location History plotted my path accurately and frequency along the roads and intersections. All the little bends and road crossings are shown when both walking and driving. This is without even opening Google Maps. On my new Nexus 6P it shows direct lines from start to finish points missing my path in its entirety. Even when opening Google Maps it will have me 500m off on my location before updating to the correct position a few seconds later.

I liked the location history but now it looks like I fly everywhere because of the straight lines and a holding pattern look around all but the position I am at. The walking path is the same as when using the Nexus 5 so it's not a signal issue. Even with the Nexus 5 in my pocket the tracking was exelent but with the Nexus 6P I have been carrying it in my hand so so the signal should not be getting blocked.

The GPS and WiFi location settings are all turned on.

Could it be the phone trying to save battery by not using the GPS to update my location all the time like on the Nexus 5? If so how do I make the GPS record more accurate positions Frequently? Or any other ideas?

I ran the Cowtown half marathon a couple weeks ago with endomondo running. I ended up a half mile short compared to the course. This is assuming theirs was correct.

Do you have GPS set to "high accuracy" under locations settings...seems to be pretty much spot on for me....I`d say it was accurate to about 2 metres in this setting virtually everywhere i use it.

I'm starting to think that Doze kills the GPS exercise app! When I go for runs, they're never longer than an hour and my running distance is tracked perfectly. When I go on long bike rides, the route breaks somewhere...and I'm just assuming it's somewhere after an hour or so and Doze puts Endomondo (or any other exercise app) to sleep.

What I've been doing now on my long bike rides is to actually pull my phone out and just hit the power button every now and then to see if that helps and it actually works.

If that's the actual cause, I thought doze would only activate when it detects no motion.

Doze doesn't fire if it detects motion or significant location changes (over 20m)

I've Been using this new fitness belt that had slots to stick a phone. It fits pretty snug into the slot. Could this have an affect on the phone's antennas? I've noticed Bluetooth audio is choppy as well. But every short 15 min run, GPS is lost at some point.
