Google Nexus 6P Like the concept, but it is too darn big

Re: Like the concept, but it is too darn big

I think mine is going back, it is too darn big. My Moto X pure has the same size screen and is way more manageable to handle in one hand. The bezels kill this phone unfortunately.

Re: Like the concept, but it is too darn big

Lol at everyone referring to 4.7-5.0" phones as small. That word would've never been used 3 years ago to describe a phone of that size.

Everyone I know will say I'm not an Apple fan but I think the one hander/two hander phone, same internals lineup is perfect. Android's premium offerings from 4.7-5.0" are extremely lacking and this is supposed to be the OS where choices reign.

A lot of people have moved on from that size. It's a lot harder to consume media on a 4.7" device than say a 6" device.

Me too, I used to mock and make fun of the Galaxy Note when it first came out, now it's no longer too big for me. As far as the 6P goes, I quickly realized that for me it's a 2-handed phone and i can either accept that, or get something else. But even a 5" phone is too big for most hands to use *easily*, so why not go with the 6P and just forget about one handed use?

That said the perfect phone would change sizes and be about 4" for one handed use and 7" for two handed use - maybe we'll have that in the year 2025 :).

This is more or less where I am. I bought a Nexus 5 and found it was too big for me to use one handed easily, when I replaced my Galaxy Nexus, so I ended up with a Moto X (2013). I even tried an iPhone 5 but the 4" screen was just too small. I've found of the last year that even a 4.7" screen has felt too small at times. I basically decided that I wanted the larger screen and, since anything 5" or larger would be tough for me one handed anyway, that the 6P would not be much worse than even a 5X. Having said that, I've been surprised with just how much I've been able to do one handed on the 6P -- it just seems to fit really nicely in my hand.

Except even Apple isn't making them completely the same -- though they are closer than the 5X and 6P. With Apple, the 6(s) has a lesser display, only the 6(s) Plus displays are 1080P. Additionally, the Plus phones have OIS that is not on the normal sized phones. There are even some minor software differences, such as landscape mode on the Plus phones (similar to that on tablets).

A lot of people had no choice since Android manufacturers practically gave up on premium offerings at 5". There's a very large consumer base that wants a premium phone "they" can use with one hand that Android manufacturers are missing out on. All of these people are left with the Z compact series (tough buy for US) and iPhone as their choices. Which do you think they're going to pick? Many of these manufacturers make 3-4 phones a year anyway, some being pointless. A large and smaller offering is definitely doable.

The differences between the 2 iPhones is minor with the smaller one performing slightly better on most tasks due to its smaller resolution. OIS and slight software differences pale in comparison to someone who wants a 5" 6P. If you want a 5" 6P, G4, or Moto X Pure, what can you do?

True it wouldn't have been used years ago.. And years ago we had dial up. Technology changes and advances :). Most wouldn't use it back in the day because it was considered "too big" even though most never gave it a try. It's like the Note series.. At first it was like who'd use that?!.. Now? It's normal.

Larger isn't an advancement in technology. Just a preference. Some of you are sounding like iSheep right now. Who would argue against choice?

I am not arguing against choice -- simply stating that the "norm" from years ago being applied today doesn't really fit. Back then Note series were huge whereas now it is a lot more in the norm. Stuff changes :).

I really hope that the phone mfg start doing a Sony and give you a large and medium size offering with the same specs rather than a phablet, and a crippled smaller offering.

No i don't think it's to big at all. I think it's the perfect size haha. Coming from a 5 inch Nexus 5 Lumia 640 combo I was a bit worried of the 7 millimeter increase but after using it for a good week. It feels normal to me. And this is my first phablet lol

There's usually a two-day adjustment period for me. When I first started with the ZenFone 2 I thought it was too big. When I first started with the Z5C I thought it was too small. When I first started with the 6P I thought it was too big. After two days with each it just felt normal.

My husband still has the moto x 2013. Both phones look slightly comical side by side on our nightstand.

I really wanted to try my first phablet (coming from a nexus 5) so I was really happy with the size of the 6p. But I used to love smaller phones so I feel your pain. I think google may stick with the 2 phone nexus strategy in 2016 and who knows. Maybe this year huawei makes both big and small and they are more similar in build quality? I imagine LG is probably going to get tired of making Nexus phones after 3 years straight and Huawei seems to be on a roll right now.

Re: Like the concept, but it is too darn big

It really sucks that they didn't just make a smaller one I had the 6p and I wound up sending it back it was great even though I'm not a fan of amoled screens I was willing to deal with that but the size was just too much I have average hands and I just couldn't get comfortable with it.

I'm coming from the m8 and now I'm getting the 5x I hope it's still a good upgrade and I'm not keen on the plastic build buy hopefully I like it.

The 5X is a great phone. If you liked everything about the 6P except the size, then the 5X is the phone for you.

Actually, LG made the Nexus 2 years in a row (Nexus 4 and 5), then took a year off (Motorola built the Nexus 6), and have come back this year with the 5X. The point still stands; there were rumors LG didn't really want to make a Nexus this year, so they may not be willing to make a replacement for the 5X next year.

OTOH, it speaks well for the Nexus 5 that the design/performance makes it feel like it is only a year old.

I get the frustration just so tired of people complaining about phones being too large. It's obviously what the masses want, get one or get over it already!
